My Favorite Things: March

Eh, five days late with my monthly favorites post. Close enough. That’s actually been my motto for the weekend: Eh, close enough. Starting with the “matching” socks I put on yesterday:

Followed by getting off the train three T stops after my actual stop because I was preoccupied picking an old gel manicure off my fingernails.

And now posting an end-of-March post on April 5th.

Eh, close enough.

Here are a few things I’ve been loving lately…

Using DJ Sets and Podcasts on SoundCloud for Workout Music

Especially since becoming a group fitness instructor, I am constantly on the hunt for awesome new workout music. I have separate playlists for everything—music perfect for Btone, music perfect for spinning (one day I swear I’m going to actually become a spin instructor and not just talk about it haha), music perfect for HIIT workouts, and so on. I have to be conscious of appealing to the masses when I’m putting together class playlists so I skip the super intense EDM, but for my personal workouts and runs, IT’S ON.

Usually I just use the Spotify radio feature or one of my own playlists on there, but my boyfriend just turned me on to SoundCloud and now I’m hooked. I’ll search for one of my favorite DJs and then pick one of their more recent podcasts or sets. They’re usually about an hour of continuous, amazing pump-up music. So far, I’ve been going to Bingo Players, Tommy Trash and Tiesto as my go-to’s, but all my favorite DJs are on SoundCloud—it’s limitless!

I’m still new to it and don’t fully understand all the ways SoundCloud can be used, but I’m loving it for my long runs!

My New Bow Pumps

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen these beauties. I first laid eyes on these Aminah Abdul Jillil bow pumps when stalking around some of my favorite fashion blogs. I knew they’d be perfect for my Boston Winter Ball outfit, so I hunted them down online and ordered them. Two months after the Ball…they arrived. Eh, close enough.

My fault for failing to read the fine print (by “fine print” I mean BACKORDERED was bolded and written in all caps no less than seven times across the web page)—and better late than never because I LOVE THEM.

Running Regularly Again

This winter in Boston was BRUTAL. Relentless sub-freezing temperatures. Snow that wouldn’t stop or melt. It was awful. Usually winter doesn’t stop me from running outside, but this year really got the best of me. Now that Boston got over its identity crisis (thanks for finally realizing you aren’t Alaska, you ass hole), I’ve been running outside around the city getting ready for my half marathon and it’s made me so unbelievably happy. Sunshine, good music, a long run along the Charles River—lately it’s been impossible for me to be in a bad mood.

Chocolate Cake Pops from Starbucks

It’s getting bad, guys. I might actually have to stop working from Starbuck’s for a little while so that I can let this chocolate cake pop addiction fade. See tweet:

If you are what you eat then fuck my life I’m a chocolate cake pop from Starbucks this week. #bikiniseason #eatclean #oops

I’ve always been a fan of cake pops, but within reason—maybe once every couple months I’ll order one with my iced coffee. Recently, however, Starbuck’s came out with this fudgy chocolate pop crafted by angels and blessed by the Heavens and I. Just. Can’t. Stop. It’s weird because I actually despise chocolate cake, but something about these pops…
