Garage Organization Ideas with Rubbermaid FastTrack

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Rubbermaid, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #FastTrack http://my-disclosur.es/RgFrEH

Our garage serves many functions: painting workshop, overflow drink and pantry storage, outdoor toy storage area, junk drop zone.

It’s a hardworking room, but you may have noticed one thing missing from that list: Parking!

There hasn’t been a car parked in our garage in years, unless you count our son’s little battery-powered dune buggy. Even though a garage where he could park was the only item on my husband’s wish list when we moved into this house three years ago.

I’m going to make that dream come true for him this spring. And we got a jump start on the great garage purge and organization project of 2014 this weekend with the help of Rubbermaid FastTrack, a nifty, easy-to-install rail system that gets junk up off of the floor and onto the walls.

I picked up the Rubbermaid FastTrack 5-piece kit, which includes the hanging rail, four hooks, plus all the hardware you need to install it, at Target. (Deal alert: this kit is on sale at Target for $28.89 from May 18-24.)

Our garage organization project is still a work in progress, and it will be until I can get some furniture painted and stocked in my booth. But in addition to doing some purging and overall cleanup last weekend, we decided to tackle one annoying little problem.

Those pesky lawn and garden tools that are propped precariously in a corner between the garage fridge and the hot water heater. Along with my son’s scooter, the plunger (yuck!), a broom, and a yard sale bird cage treasure!

It’s always such a pain when you need to grab anything from that corner because everything comes toppling out with it.

So, we decided to convert this unused corner into yard tool storage central.

Installing the FastTrack System was easy. The hardest part was locating the studs. (For maximum stability and weight capacity, you want both ends of your rail mounted in a stud.)

My husband drilled a series of pilot holes, then installed anchors into the drywayll. Next, he attached the Rubbermaid FastTrack rail to the wall, then added the cover and hooks.

Then it was just a matter of deciding what to hang where.

I love that you can fit multiple tools on the multipurpose hooks.

I’m planning to head back to Target this week to take advantage of the sale to pick up additional FastTrack kits for other tools, kids’ toys and sporting equipment. I have visions of installing rails all along the left side of the garage for toy storage.

But first, I have some more painting and purging to do!

Anyone want to come help?
