Favorite Doctor Who Episodes(List of the Week no. 4)

“List of the Week” is a weekly segment where I write about 5 (or in this case 6) things pertaining to a particular topic. The lists can cover anything from favorite characters to most embarrassing moments to weird items I keep in my desk. Feel free to take part in the list making as well! It’s a fun and easy way to get to know people around the blogosphere.

This week’s topic is favorite Doctor Who episodes. Three things are clear from this list: I really like two part episodes, I also really like epic season finales, and I seem to enjoy creepy villains. Oh, and I couldn’t narrow it down to 5 so it’s a list of 6 this week, but anyway, here are my favorite Doctor Who episodes from the 2005 rebute (in order by air date):

THE EMPTY CHILD/THE DOCTOR DANCES (two parters count as one episode, okay! Otherwise I never would have narrowed down this list)

The Ninth Doctor, creepy gas mask children asking “Are you my mummy?”, and the introduction of Captain Jack Harkness – what’s not to love? Okay, maybe it has a little more to do with that last one than the other two, but can you blame me? Captain Jack is one of the best characters, imo.

Who doesn’t love this episode? It’s easily one of, if not the most, iconic episode of the series. The Weeping Angels will always be some of the scariest villains in all of Doctor Who. No matter how many times they try to bring them back they’ll never be as terrifying as in their debut episode. The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone might be a close second though – things coming out of tv screens will always be creepy as all get out.

I just really love The Master and John Simm was hilariously evil in that role.

Another one of those creepy/awesome episodes that makes you wary of everyday things – like shadows. Plus we get introduced to River Song and the overwhelming complexity of her story arc with the Doctor.

This is another iconic episode of the new series. Who didn’t shed at least one tear while watching this or want a poster of the exploding TARDIS for their own art collection?

As many issues as I have with the 11th Doctor and Amy and Rory’s story arc, I love their first season together and the two part finale wraps it up in a way that makes you fall even more in love with them.

So, my fellow Whovians, what are your favorite episodes? How excited are you for the new series this weekend? Anyone going to see the premier in theaters?
