As we dive deeper into festival season, we want to talk about all-things rave! Each day this week, contributor Nicky Ottav will hit up a member of L.A.-based fashion collective/cyber cool kids club The Fabulous Stains and ask ‘em to dish on their best fest tips.

What does being a Nasty Gal mean to you?

It means being one of the fiercest, flyest, spiciest girls on this side of the Mississippi. (laughs) That’s how you know I’m from the country. No, but seriously, it’s just about being ahead of the trends and going further. It’s also about personality. You can’t be a Nasty Gal if you don’t get nasty. Twerk sum’n.

How long have you been going to festivals and concerts? Do you have a fav memory from a particular one?

I haven’t been to many due to low funds, but I’d say I started when I was about 19. My favorite memory was my very first one: ACL Fest in Austin. I went with one of my best friends from high school, and it was definitely a culture shock. I’d never seen so many artists in one place, not to mention so many delicious smelling clouds of smoke either. That was the first time I had ever heard Regina Spektor, and it was magical to say the least. Dat girl can sang!

As a musician, what would be your dream festival to perform at and why?

Huh, now that’s tough. As a musician, any stage would be a blessing. I don’t really care how big or small. But I guess Coachella would be pretty rad seeing as how I’ve never even been. I just want to see what all the hype is about!

What are your festival essentials?

My doctor’s rec, first and foremost, nail polish ’cause I know it’s gonna be hot as hades and bare, crusty nails are NOT the business in open toe shoes, and a cute umbrella. I don’t need a tan… I’m black.

Any trend predictions for this upcoming festival season?

Jeans! Jean shorts, jean pants, jean skirts, jean overalls—preferably with holes in them and long maxi skirts because, let’s be real, you’re gonna need a to catch a breeze down below, if you know what I mean. The heat is no joke. Fresh whites, tons of flower prints and flower crowns, anything flowy like kimonos and ’90s-style sandals. You know, the quintessential hippie steez. Weirdly enough, I think fanny packs may be making a comeback. Well, I’ve got one anyway. It would be an absolute tragedy to lose my phone somewhere in the desert. And big, big hats. I’ll be wearing my cowboy hat! Yeeehaw! 3rd Ward Texas at the festival, baby! And last, but not least, I think we’ll be seeing lots of jumpsuits. Why? It’s so easy—just a one piece deal. Throw it on and go! Sign me up!
