& Other Stories Amsterdam store opening

Have you heard of & Other Stories? Ever since I stepped into their Berlin store two years, I’ve been a big fan of this brand, which is part of the H&M Group. I longed for the day they would open a store in Amsterdam… and they finally did! So you can imagine how thrilled I was to be invited to the store opening of & Other Stories Amsterdam.

One of my favorite things about blogging is the opportunity to meet wonderful people who become your friends online as well as off. The invitation was the sweetest birthday surprise from my blog reader Angel, a fellow Pinay and travel magazine editor living in Arnhem. We’d been emailing each other about meeting up for a while, and it finally happened. Meeting an online friend in person is a bit like going on a blind date, but Angel and I hit it off right away.

I had been craving for a girly night out and the & Other Stories store opening provided just that. I thought I’d only stay an hour or two, but I couldn’t tear myself away. How could I? For starters, there were hunky men walking around wearing trays of jewelry…

and scribbling cute little notes on bottle after bottle of champagne.

Funny thing: after posting this picture on Instagram, I bumped into this exact same waiter on the tram the very next day! Sometimes I feel like Amsterdam really is a village. I showed him his picture and all the likes he had gotten, and we had a nice laugh about it.

I wouldn’t know a Dutch celebrity (in local parlance: BN-ers, bekende Nederlanders or literally famous Dutch person) if I fell over one. But even clueless me managed to recognize a few faces, such as Dutch style blogger Linda Tol with her delicate features and silver-gray bob, on the left side of this photo.

I also caught a glimpse of Valentijn de Hingh, the transgender model whose experiences as a transgender child were the subject of the documentary Valentijn. She’s the supertall blonde on the right.

The & Other Stories store covers two floors and is huge! Aside from clothing and accessories, it has a shoe department…

a beauty department…

with sleekly packaged and cleverly named products.

TIP: Want a beach-proof glow? & Other Stories’ lip and cheek tint has great staying power!

I have a special place in my heart for product names. In my dream world, I get paid to sit in a room where people bring me nameless products and companies, and I name them.

There is also a modest lingerie collection, and a few home accessories like scented candles.

Finally, the crowd started to thin out at around 10pm, giving me a better lay of the land. All the better to plan my next visit!

It turned out that everyone was just outside, eating fries and mayo on the street. A Vlaamse frites cart had been hired especially for the evening—a very Dutch, very gezellig way to end a fabulous night of shopping.

Welcome to Amsterdam, & Other Stories! I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more of each other… soon.
