One of the most common questions I am asked is “Where is your favourite place in the world?”. This also happens to be one of the hardest questions in the world to answer. I have ‘favourite’ places based on so many reasons, but it all comes down to personal experience. Cinque Terre is definitely one of my favourite places in the world, and although I have dozens for different reasons this is a place that will never leave me.

I first visited Cinque Terre in 2010 in the early months of my blog while I was travelling by myself, trying to heal a recently broken heart. I stayed in a hostel in Riamagiorre and met two of the most beautiful fellow Australian girls to explore the five towns with. There is barely any wifi available in any of the towns, nearly no cars, hundreds of stairs, overpacked trains that run on Italian time, pesto and gelato that I still dream about, and surreal sunsets over the cliffside towns. Apart from being the most romantic and picturesque place I’d ever seen, Cinque Terre was healing. It is always strange coming back to someone so nostalgic, but it was as beautiful as ever.
