Project Life 2014 | August 10-16

I love documenting my life with weekly Project Life spreads! At the end of each month, I batch edit and order the previous month’s photos and then work on spreads in batches. Today I’m sharing a spread from mid-August.

Click on the photos for a larger view.

The photos for this week happen to be really dark and I was stuck on this one for a bit. I had the cards picked out and sitting in the spreads without embellishments or journaling for a few weeks. I was planning on not embellishing at all, but the spread just didn’t feel right to me. (I also had the background card in the upper left and the photo in the lower right switched.)

Luckily, when the November Oh Deer Me kit arrived and had just the right colors, I found the spark to finish it up. Sometimes shiny new products can do that (though sometimes browsing through your stash / cleaning / organizing can do the trick too).

Going on here: Front yard picnic with my sister, niece Ava B., and the kids, watching Ava H., Eliza and Jonas sharing Jake’s and my passions, Jonas joining in with yoga, lunch out for a friend’s birthday, and Jake’s photo of a “super moon.”

I needed a 4×6 space for journaling, but because the photos are so dark, I decided that I needed a mostly white space decorative card instead of a journaling card. To get both outcomes, I used a bi-fold card and attached it onto the background by cutting a little slit in the card for the star clip.

I used these clear circle word stickers throughout the layout to bring things together. To add in more white and make sure the phrases were visible, I stuck them onto white card stock and cut them out rather than adding them straight to the layout.

I added part of a journaling card onto this photo so I’d have a bit more space for words.

Going on here: Dinner and pinball for a friend’s birthday, filming a process video for Catch Up with Project Life, Eliza’s back to school night to meet her teacher, laughing at cat videos, and our family over for my mom’s birthday. (It was a big week for birthdays.)

You can use visual triangles not only to bring together a whole spread, but also to join a section or collection of photos together visually.

I’m happy to have this one in the books! I’d love to know what helps you when you get stuck on a spread.

Basic Supplies: Jade Project Life kit, November Oh Deer Me kit, currently mini stamp, Project Life journaling pens, Design A page protectors, Design K page protectors, Project Life corner rounder.
