November Challenge | Get Back into an Old Style

November Challenge | Get Back into an Old Style

Welcome to the monthly Nerd Nest Memory Keeping Challenge!

This month, your challenge is to get back into an old style.

In memory keeping, styles come and go. Popular icons shift, supplies that were all the rage are rarely seen, and common layout configurations fall to the wayside. Just as industry style shifts over time, your own style changes too. But some good stuff can get left behind in the process!

Flip through your old layouts or projects to get an idea spark for something to make now. Maybe you used to use a certain supply often but haven’t reached for it in a long while (for me, that’s buttons and paint). Maybe you used to be a one photo heavy embellishments scrapper and have shifted towards a more clean, graphic style. Maybe you have an unfinished project and need to mimic your old style to finish it up with a mostly consistent look.

Haven’t been memory keeping long enough for this challenge? Try looking through your favorite memory keeper’s blog archives and get inspired by their old style!

For my take on this challenge, I looked through my old layouts to be inspired. I noticed that I almost always used to start with colored card stock or patterned paper as a background, when today I’m more likely to reach for the white card stock. I did lots of big blocks of patterned paper and pattern mixing. I was also more likely to get out the wet supplies.

I decided to scraplift my 2011 Eliza on Coraline layout with some other techniques I used to use often mixed in! I love the resulting page about Eliza picking which room she wanted in our house when we moved here in 2010.

This shows that you don’t have to lose your right-now style to get inspired by your old style. Using current products or adding in current techniques can help your project to fit your present perspective.

My old pages have also inspired me to bust out the buttons, do some fussy cutting, and go bold with titles. I can’t wait to make even more spreads for this challenge!

Supplies: November Oh Deer Me kit, October Oh Deer Me Kit, Calendar Washi, Studio Calico Atlantic paper, Color Theory Mint Hint Paint, Project Life Lovely Mini Kit, Project Life Jade Core Kit, Project Life corner rounder, Project Life journaling pens.

What old style are you going to use? Share your take with a link in the comments below! You can also use the hashtag #NerdNestChallenge on social media.

I’ll be adding takes I find to the Nerd Nest Challenges Pinboard! Share your links to past challenges too so I can add them.
