Day in the Life // December

Day in the Life // December

Last year I played along with Ali Edward’s Day in the Life monthly and it was one of my favorite projects ever. This year, I’m repeating the project. On the 15th of each month, I’m going to document my everyday life. I like having a set day because I won’t worry about finding a “representative” or “normal” day. Wherever the 15th falls, that’s what I’ll document.

Here’s Monday, December 15:

I didn’t get any photos taken until mid-morning, because things were kind of hectic getting Eliza and Jake out of the door and getting baby Ava in the door. After I fed Ava and put her down for a nap, I finished up the last bit of things I needed to do to open up the Pocket Your Year Facebook Group so I could post about the class.

Jonas had a fever and wasn’t feeling well all day, so he slept in, ate breakfast, and watched cartoons while sleeping off and on.

When Ava woke up, I changed her and fed her and watched Gilmore Girls. It’s been my bottle routine with her when I watch her. Jonas didn’t want to miss that action, so he came and snuggled in.

When everyone was sleeping again, I did a bit of scrapbooking. You’ll see the end result of this Freckled Fawn Ruby Rock-It page on Freckled Fawn’s blog Friday.

I also made a Project Life spread and printed photos for December Daily.

After a nap and lunch, Jonas was feeling better. He colored and taped up his creation into a washi tape ball, which he put under the tree for his best friend.

Ava did a lot of playing with us on the floor. She LOVES this big block. A friend bought it for Eliza when she was a baby and it’s been a big hit around here ever since.

After some book reading, Jonas wanted to rest again but ended up playing Nintendo 64 for a little bit instead. I love that he likes the games I liked when I was younger. He was just running around and enjoying the characters in more open world games, but now he’s actually figuring out some moves and combos. He spends about five minutes with a game, switches out to a new one, and is done with the whole thing in about 15 minutes.

When Eliza got home from school, she went straight to my bathroom where these growing gel ball things were hanging out in water. She got them from a friend’s birthday party the day before. She was so good about sharing with Jonas and wasn’t even mad that he dumped out the transparent ones earlier in the day, thinking that he was just pouring a bowl of water out.

Then Eliza came down to play with Ava and read her some books.

I took that as an opportunity to rest a bit. Even though all of the pictures of me ended up being on the couch because it’s an easy spot for the self-timer, I spent a lot of the day working and cleaning and organizing and chasing the kids. So resting and knitting a few rows was awesome.

I’m working on a blanket for Eliza (it’s pretty big) and will not be done forever.

Jake got home right as Ava was about to get picked up, so he was able to get some snuggles and giggles in. He’s her favorite, because to a baby, Jake is HILARIOUS.

We had a quick dinner of quick food. Jonas’s favorite is Velveeta shells and cheese, so I humored him because he’s sick and we had that with popcorn chicken and oranges. I feel guilty about having that kind of food, but having a few quick-prep options keeps us from going out to eat on days we don’t have time for something more elaborate.

Jake brought up the Christmas stuff from the basement and the kids placed holiday knick-knacks and we all got the lights up.

We meant to get the ornaments on the tree too, but it got too late.

We had on the Muppet Christmas Carol in the background while decorating, and we let the kids watch a few more minutes of that before bed. Eliza had seen a few versions at school and she was comparing and contrasting the versions the whole time.

Eliza and I got things picked up a bit downstairs while Jake gave Jonas another round of fever reducer and tucked him into bed. I was planning on reading him a bunch of Christmas books, but he was sound asleep literally a minute after Jake put him in bed.

Also, he looks so tiny in his new bed! A teenage family member got a new bedroom set and gave this to Jonas this month. Jonas is so excited about those drawers.

Eliza went to her room to read before bed and Jake and I got to work painting our spare room. He taped off trim and roller painted two walls while I painted corners and around trim. We have been working on this room for months and I am so glad it is almost done.

We painted until around 11 PM, then cleaned up. I took a quick bath, Jake watched some Museum Mystery kind of show and I read Harry Potter in French until we fell asleep, snuggled up under 7 blankets and the cats.

This is my last Day in the Life on the 15th! In 2015, I’m switching to the 4th.
