Review: BMO iPhone 5 Case from Society6

I received my phone case from Society6! It’s one of my own designs, BMO! based of course on Beemo from Adventure Time. The case is available for iPhone (3/3GS, 4/4S and 5), iPod Touch, and Samsung Galaxy S4.

I ended up designing my own Beemo case since nothing existing was quite to my liking. I gave my design a little extra kick by giving it realistically-rendered buttons based on the Super Nintendo controller.

So let’s take a look at the actual case!

Here it is! Pretty close to the simulated image from Society6! I’m happy with the overall image quality — it ended up looking just the way the artwork did on my monitor! Printing is smooth and seamless so it doesn’t feel like it would chip off or anything.

Just seeing that smiling face looking up at me always cheers me up!

My own Beemo!

The case is made of hard plastic, which has a smooth and solid feel without being bulky. It’s pretty sleek! I’m enjoying the feel of it on my hand. It gives me no trouble when taking pictures, or playing games, whether they are portrait or landscape-oriented.

Closer look

The edges are beveled, which I thought was a very nice touch.

Bottom part

Ports at the bottom are easily accessible, but it still covers a big area for decent protection.

Bottom details

Control panel details. I feel like I can almost press on the D-pad, hahah! There’s a CaseMate logo imprinted on the bottom part but it’s very subtle. I don’t even mind it because it’s a nice logo.

Volume control side

Opening at the volume control side is just right. Not too deep so I have no trouble getting at the buttons.

Opening for camera and flash

I’m not sure why there is so much allowance on the bottom part. Maybe it’s so the LED flash diffuses properly?

From the top

Opening at the top for the power/lock button.

From the side

Another Case Mate logo on the bottom half of one side. I don’t even notice it all that much.

Smooth edges

It fits snugly around the phone, but it flexes just the right amount so it’s not hard to take it off. The edges are smooth so it feels nice to hold.

Bit of allowance

If you notice, the case extends a tiny amount higher than the phone screen.

Space between phone screen and table

This way, you can set it down on a table without letting the surface touch your phone screen. I imagine it might also offer a little protection if your phone was to fall facedown on a smooth, flat surface.

Inside the case

Here’s what the inside looks like.

Society6 logo on rubber padding

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the surface with the diagonal grain is a thin layer of rubber padding to absorb a bit of shock if your phone falls.

Now my phone is Beemo on the inside and out!
