Sparkling Across America: Massachusetts

Emily Geaman is a Boston girl filled with New England spirit and style. A lover of classic, preppy style, we thought Emily was the perfect representative of Massachusetts for our Sparkling Across America series. Read on for more about Emily’s blog, Shell Chic’d, her style inspiration, and more!

Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you begin blogging?

In April 2011, I found myself recently out of college, with a lot of spare time and not a lot of inspiration, and on my first 9-5 schedule. One of my responsibilities at my new job was to write for and maintain the company blog/website, so on a technical level I started my blog to learn WordPress and HTML, but it also quickly became incredibly therapeutic for me. I had graduated college with a writing degree, and here was my own space in which I could write whatever I pleased with no deadlines and no assignments.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Classic, Coastal, Sparkle

Where do you get your style inspiration?

Everywhere from the nautical seaside towns of New England to upscale Newbury Street in Boston! I love creating outfits with a nautical, beachside flair that are still polished enough for work. I also rely heavily on print catalogues (love that a few still exist!)—Jack Wills, Lilly Pulitzer, and J.Crew’s are some of my favorites.

What do you like best about living in Massachusetts?

There’s just so much charm and history everywhere you go, whether you’re strolling the cobblestone streets of Beacon Hill, on the beach in Cape Cod, or in the mountains of the Berkshires.

Do you notice any regional trends that may not be as prevalent in other parts of the country?

By the nature of where we’re located, we HAVE to know how to dress for blistering winters. I don’t claim to be one of them, but you see some amazing cold-weather dressers here—beautiful coats, chic earmuffs and snoods, stunning boots that are both stylish and weatherproof (still on the hunt to find a pair of these myself!).

What is your favorite local attraction?

In all of Massachusetts, I feel most at home at Scituate Lighthouse on the South Shore.

How would you define New England style?

Preppy, classic, and like my friends and fellow bloggers Kristen Uekermann and Liana Krupp say, “new Brahmin”—Bostonians especially seem to love classic styles and cuts, but with bold prints, patterns, and colors.

What trend are you most excited about looking forward to spring/summer?

Scallops, tassel details, and whimsical summery prints! Not just flowers, but lemons, bumblebees, buoys, lobsters… you get the picture

What do you look for in a piece of jewelry?

Versatility—something I can wear with at least half of my closet, that can take me from the office to happy hour to weekend retreats.

What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own and why?

A charm bracelet that belonged to my grandmother—she was given an award for her service and dedication as an Avon lady in 1965!

What is your favorite piece from EvesAddiction.com right now?

Definitely a cross between the Sterling Silver Monogram Necklace, the White and Silver Anchor Wrap Watch, and the Kate Middleton Petite Replica Engagement Ring (I’m a sucker for anything Duchess Kate-related).
