Independent Love Song – Ben Howard: Old Pine

Yes I know, it’s been a while since Independent Love Song graced our pretty festival pages but I’m pleased to say that it’s back and it’s back with a vengeance! We have an absolutely stunning song to share with you today.

For those of you who are relatively new to Festival Brides, Independent Love Song is a weekly feature (usually posted on a Monday) where we bring to you alternative love song suggestions for your first dance. Chosen by our real life wedding couples, our lovely readers who like to share cool new music and the FBrides gals, the songs we feature go against the grain of what is perceived as traditional with the aim to inspire and open your mind to different genres of music.

They chose Ben Howard with Old Pine and here’s why:

We had talked about a first dance but never got as far as working one out so we were kind of anticipating it slipping past everyone’s attention. However Paul’s sister who had flown in from America to see us get married insisted we fulfill at least one tradition (after we refused to cut a cupcake, or throw the bouquet…) She and her husband promptly started singing a beautiful version of Old Pine by Ben Howard.

That special moment meant even more because it was their gift to us. This was what our wedding was about – treasuring the people around us.
