5 Things I Wanted to Be When I Grew Up.

In an effort to share more of who I am, I’ve been doing these sort of “get to know” me type posts and I hope you enjoy them I’ve actually really enjoyed doing them, to be honest, and feel free to link up in the comments if you’ve done any of those kinds of posts. I really enjoy reading them as well.

Anyhow, when I grew up, I wanted to be the strangest things. Like any kid, I went through phases as I got older and it would always change. It wasn’t until I was about 13 that I truly decided what I wanted to do with my life which hasn’t really changed since then. I thought I’d share a few things I wanted to be when I “grew up” when I was a kid as I think some of them are pretty relatable and funny.

  1. A Disney Princess. When I was around 4, I really wanted to be a Disney princess. What little girl doesn’t want that, amirite? I was pretty obsessed with Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid at the time. I watched them at least once a day, I’m sure, and their lives looked amazing. I mean, Belle was smart, she had this awesome library, and she had amazing dresses, but she wasn’t shallow at all. Ariel was quirky, lived under the sea, was best friends with other sea creatures, and she had a MERMAID tail with that incredible red hair.
  2. A Tap Dancer. When I was about 5, my mom bought this collection of the old black and white Little Rascals shows. I would watch them obsessively and pretty much wanted to be just like Darla. She could sing and tap dance really well so I would sing and tap dance on this old wooden board my dad gave me. I would wear my strappy black shoes which made the tapping noise on the board and dance away. I still love those Little Rascal episodes; they’re so creative! If you haven’t seen them, definitely check them out.
  3. A Waitress. This stemmed from the fact that my crazy aunt was a waitress and, at the time, I thought she was super cool. After all, she got that thick notepad to take peoples orders with that awesome pen. I don’t know why I thought it was so amazing, but I did. She gave me an extra order pad and I spent a month badgering my parents to take their “orders” for things like water, chips, etc. haha.
  4. A Grocery Store Sales Clerk. I had one of those cashier cash register things when I was about 7 that would make that “beep” every time you scanned an item through. I could even bag items into baskets; it was legit.
  5. A Spice Girl. This is a no-brainer. At age 8, I became a bonafied Spice Girl fan. This meant that my friends and I (who were all into the SG too) would choreograph dances to all of our favorite songs, dress up in outfits like our favorite Spice Girls, attempt to speak in British accents, etc. One year, my friend and I even dressed up as Spice Girls for Halloween. I was Baby Spice and she was Ginger Spice. I used that horrible colored hair spray to dye my hair blonde which I’m quite sure made me look like a skunk and I was lucky to have a friend’s grandma hand make my pink dress. Paired that will my white platform sneakers! I’m totally unashamed to say I have some of the dance routines immortalized on VHS. It’s great blackmail haha.
