Step Up: Trepidation

So, I’ve become very jealous of a group of internet ladies. The women of Ringo Pie. No, not Ringo Starr (although I’ll admit he looks a little bit like a lady). Ringo Pie is a quilting group that makes AMAZING paper pieced quilting blocks. It’s not like your typical quilting bee where you all meet and, well, quilt. They make different paper pieced blocks on their own and distribute them among the other members. Here are some AMAZING (I apparently use that word a lot) examples:

You can find these and more over on their Flickr board. Prepare yourself to be amazed. And if you’re like me, overwhelmed in jealous rage.

ANYWAY, because I’m 1) very easily jealous, and 2) very prone to copying other people’s fabulous ideas, I decided to start MY OWN PAPER PIECING QUILT CLUB!!! It currently consists of three people – me, my mom (the woman who brought quilting into my life and is ridiculously good at it – obvs), and my friend Heather (hi Heather!). We’ve decided to call ourselves “Step Up: Trepidation.” Well, I decided that. My mom suggested just Trepidation (because we’re all pretty daunted by this whole paper piecing business) and I added the “Step Up” part because I’ve always wanted to join a dance gang and this is as close as I’ll get.

NOW! While we are not at ALL (slightly) depressed that we only have three members in our STELLAR AND AWESOME club…we are accepting applications to join. Here’s how it’ll work. Each month, one bee member chooses a theme. The other members pick fabrics from their stash and patchwork together something that fits the theme. With three members, we’ll be working on one person’s quilt for more than one month, but if we had MORE (like 12) members, everyone would get a full paper pieced quilt within a year. Ummmm…YES PLEASE!!!

So if you’re interested in joining, let me know. I just want to point out that you don’t need to be experienced with paper piecing, just willing to learn it. I’ve done a couple small things and it wasn’t too bad. Here is a great place to start.

LET’S DO THIS! Maybe in our second year, we’ll start quilting

in the rain!
