Observation & Judgement

The beginning of June is proving to be an intense time. We are currently having “open class” at my school. This means parents get to come stand in the back of my kindergarten class to observe their little ones. This usually means unexpected misbehavings and random bites from children. My first observation was today and I had 3 parents come. It went fairly well except for when one of my kids bit me on the arm. There were also a few poop jokes made… but isn’t that the nature of children? They’re unexpected. At least they expressed those poop jokes in coherent English.

I have two more days of observations this week. I just need to let shit go and do what I normally do. I should’ve baked cookies. Yes, cookies would’ve been good. Parents love my cookies. Next time, I’ll get ‘em. I also have observations next week. Poly headquarters is supposedly coming to observe both kindergarten and elementary classes. I absolutely hate being observed live. That’s what the fucking CCTV is for! Sit in a comfortable room and judge away! But having someone in the classroom with me disrupts my class flow and natural-ness. Ehh, just another thing that’s part of the Poly experience. I’ll decide if this is a pro or con later.

At April, I used to love meeting and greeting parents. I’ve done seminars where I’ve met parents and discussed their child’s progress. I think because this time, they’re actually watching me teach so I’m a bit more apprehensive about the whole experience.
