Korean War Museum (전쟁기념관)

I spent Friday off from work hanging out with my one & only babygirl Kristina and her friend Gil, who just came back to Korea. Of course, before doing anything, we had lunch at On the Border’s in Sinchon. On the Border’s has my favorite salsa and Kristina & I have a discount card since we go there at least once a month. I’ve always passed the War Museum but never had the chance to visit it… mainly because I was always on my way to some restaurant to stuff my face. Korean history fascinates me, especially history pertaining to North Korea and the pre-modern Seoul era. The museum itself is free of charge and contains about 3 floors of exhibits. Due to some confusion, we skipped a few exhibits. My favorite part of the museum was the “Jungles of Vietnam” exhibit haha.

The picture above shows English soldiers/volunteers teaching English back in the day. I assume that’s what I would’ve looked like if I lived back then. Imagine trying to film a CTP in those conditions! Anyways, since the museum closed at 6, we had to hightail it out of there.

After a day of educating ourselves about Korean history, we headed off to Hongdae to hang out. We ended up at Wicked Spoon to cool off. Taiwanese-style shaved ice… SO DELICIOUS! We met up with Don (one of Gil’s friends whom I met last year) and his friends. We were pretty much third wheeling it on their double date hahaha. We had a beer at this terrace place. It was nice. I love meeting people outside of the ESL teaching position. Their stories are so interesting and it’s refreshing not to hear a story about some kid. All in all, a very good day! ^^
