Outfit: Reconnecting

The past few weeks have been full of purposeful reconnections. Good friends that I haven’t seen or spoken to in a while for reasons that are inconsequential. I find as I get older and now that I’m not working regularly, my introversion is growing. Often the most exciting thing I do is stay home and hang out with my husband. Perhaps we’re watching TV (by the way have you seen Orphan Black?) or perhaps we’re reading or doing who knows what on our laptops or phones. It doesn’t really matter what we’re doing. Just that we’re together and comfortable. My desire to stay home and my tolerance of drama is not existent. This leads towards a filtering of friendships. Sometimes it is intentional and other times it isn’t. Plus, I can be a bit direct so sometimes I’m the one getting filtered. For quite a while I struggled with the shrinking circle of people I called friends but now I’m realizing that it’s not the quantity but the quality that matters.

I do miss the friends I had from Michigan. The distance makes it so hard to keep in touch. But the great thing about those friends is when I do make it back to MI, it’s often like no time has passed at all. There is such a familiar comfort and history that makes it feel easy and right.

It seems I’m not alone in this friendship evolution. A sage friend of mine described his friend categories and I want to share them with you. First is the “4 am Friend” – the person you could call for any crisis and who would be there no questions asked. You must also be their “4 am Friend.” The next category is “Friends” (the people you really like being around and are willing to make the extra effort to see) followed by “$10 Friends” (this takes a little more explanation but the brief version is, would you loan them $10 if you knew that meant you would never see them – or your money – again?) and lastly “Acquaintances” (these are the folks often met up in groups). This is what my friendship circle looks like right now:

Thanks for reading. I needed to get that out in the open! As a result of these outfit pics I realized two things. 1) I don’t like my eye makeup like this and 2) these pants need to go. Sigh.
