During the ages of revolution, fashion itself shows its unique power —— the power of destruction, or in other words, the motive of innovation. We clearly remember the F/W 1991 ready-to-wear collections, from which the glamorous 80s fell apart while coming along the Simplism style that ran through the whole decade. Fascinatingly prints, exaggerated silhouettes, and more-is-more accessorized styles suddenly became no where in sight and turned into a much more low-profile way with simple combos and tailored cuttings. Monochrome Simplism, with the recession of the Glam 80s, came to the first hit in fashion which exerted a profound impact on personal style.

Destruction is an alternative way of re-construction as well as an exceptional expression of pragmatism and quality. During the 90s, Jil Sander eliminated all those redundant elements to rebuild the concept of simpism—— with well-tailored pants, white shirts, and durable cashmere coats. The genius Margiela put his spectacular cutting skills, casually cutting classic clothing into random pieces and putting them together unexpectedly, to good use to recreate the formulary of silhouettes. Not to mention more about Helmut Lung, whose ideology of simplism has even inspired the irreplaceable Raf Simons.
I love the power of destruction for no redundant reasons.Since I consider it a wordless but profound expression. In some circumstances, you just don't have to put on all those in-season pieces to make a statement. A destructed jacket, especially made of denim with just a pair of simplest tight jeans will do as well or even much better. I enjoy the process of denim ripping, cuz during the process, the original seams, figures, constructions, and silhouettes will be refreshed to a beyond-imagination form, which may probably bring unforeseeing surprises. And life needs those lovely surprises.
