TULUM + TAKING TIME

A couple of weeks ago my sister went on a last-minute escape to Tulum, Mexico, and I was insanely jealous of her little getaway (as I’m sure are many of you who are still stuck in very wintery weather). Yesterday her friend Blair, who is a wonderful photographer, posted photos of their trip on her blog, and I was totally moved to share them…

As I scrolled through her images, it was like I found my own little peace out of these quiet moments she captured so perfectly. But they also conveyed something more to me…

Family. And what it means. Not just blood, but friends, taking the time to be together, in the moment. Her husband fishing, her little one experiencing something new, friends doing yoga together, each enjoying this complete break from reality in their own way.

I miss these types of moments. When my friends were younger – and there were fewer kids – it wasn’t as hard to tote a babe or two around with us on trips, but now they’ve got families and schedules and school, and so much more to juggle.

As the single girl in the group, I’m ready to pack my bags for Mexico tomorrow, but really, I’d go anywhere just to spend time with not only my friends but their kiddos. Some of my most favorite memories from my childhood were the days spent with all the grown ups – we all have so much to learn from each other. It’s so special.

And there’s always something to be said for the evening hours after the babes are all tucked into bed and you can just be a grown up, with your grown up friends and grown up beverages.

It’s all about taking time. Making time. Here’s to more of that. And thank you Blair, for letting me share your moments, and reminding me to make more of my own!
