The Big Read - 2014

Every year, at least at our library in the wonderfully cultured Vigo County {as if!!}, there is a sponsored big read for the area. This year it is The Magnificent Ambersons by Indiana author Booth Tarkington. Local banks in our area sponsor The Big Read and purchases a quantity of copies and gives them away to encourage reading.

The display the Vigo County Public Library puts out for the chosen book. They always do such a marvelous job.
The lovely center piece. The novel takes place in the early 20th century and as you can tell it definitely has the elegant vibe.
Lovely setting. I did notice that there was no name card for a Sean MacKenzie.
This is the centerpiece as well, it is just...magnificent.
You need beautiful candlesticks when dining in Edwardian style.
The little mannequin is even dressed in style.
{You may need to enlarge to be able to read this. Sorry about that.}
Booth Tarkington is was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1869 and like many Hoosiers is a great story teller and set many of his novels in his home state. Tarkington served on term as an Indiana representative, two of his novels {The Magnificent Ambersons and Alice Adams} both won the Pulitzer prize, and he was also not a fan of FDR, I like Tarkington even more.
I don't always join in with The Big Read, but I'm excited to have an Indiana author featured where most of the time my beloved home state is forgotten, it is nice to for Booth Tarkington and Indiana to get much deserved recognition.
I'll talk more on the book later, but for now I leave you with the lovely set up the main library put out. It's one of the prettiest thus far. {I did rather like the theme for The Maltese Falcon a few years back and Tom Sawyer's last year.}
Do they have The Big Read in your area and if so, do you participate?
