How to Turn Off In-App Purchases

The other day, I had a conversation with one of my co-workers about how her 4 year old daughter had more iPhone/iPad skills than the 2 of us combined. She kind of laughed and said yeah, she knows her way around both. We got to talking about all the different tools available to kids these days, technology-wise. Especially on the iPhone & iPad. She said her daughter likes to watch cartoons and play games but that she has to be careful as to what she keeps available because she’s ended up with some fairly high iTunes bills. When I questioned how that was possible, she said that her daughter just pushes buttons while playing in the apps and it’s resulted in some in-app purchases…costing her a lot of money. So, in an effort to help save YOU money, I’m showing you how to turn off in-app purchases for both the iPhone and iPad.

iPhone Tutorial

1. Click the Settings (gear icon) Button on your phone.

2. Choose General Settings.

3. Scroll down until you see “Restrictions” and click on it.

4. Click the button to Enable Restrictions.

5. A pop-up asking you to enter a 4-digit passcode is going to appear. Select a 4-digit passcode and enter it. It will ask you to re-confirm it, aka enter it again.

**Note: This passcode does not affect your phone’s passcode if you have one (from the lock screen). This passcode is only for the restrictions.

6. Once the passcode has been entered twice, scroll down and turn off In-App Purchases by sliding the button over. And you’re done!

iPad Tutorial:

1. Click the Settings button (gear icon) on your iPad.
2. Click the General Tab.

6. Once the passcode has been entered twice, scroll down and turn off In-App Purchases by sliding the button over. And you’re done!

Hopefully this tutorial on how to turn off in-app purchases is helpful for you! If you have kids on iPhones and iPads, it just might put your mind (and wallet) at ease.
