DIY Frozen Halloween Costumes

Hi everyone! DIY costumes been this year have so amazingly cute! From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Malificent and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz! We have posted some super cute quick last minute costumes so far, that I thought why not a couple more? I decided to jump on the bandwagon and make some favorites of this season – DIY Frozen Halloween Costumes of course! I was super excited to create these beauties for two reasons. 1. Lena and her friends LOVE Frozen and 2. I was speaking with some friends about if they will even be able to find a costume or the worry about it potentially getting ruined during trick or treating.

With 50% of this years trick or treaters being dressed as one of the characters from that movie, I thought why not but a little spin on it with these costumes, and make ballerina inspired ones with our own interpretation. The steps might seem really long, but I promise it really is super simple and SUPER quick and the longest part of it was waiting for the glue to dry! Meaning – you could TOTALLY put these together TODAY! So let’s get to it!

The Elsa Costume

What you will need:

• 2 rolls of white tulle (it is really sheer and you will need more)
• ½ roll of light blue tulle
• ½ roll of blue sparkle tulle
• 40 inches of a sheer shiny blue ribbon
• White leotard
• Snowflake embelishments
• Fabric fusion glue
• Blue glitter (optional)

Note: the amount of tulle needed is dependent on the size of your child’s waist. The one made was 20 inches.

Making the Tutu:

1. Find the middle of your 40 Inch ribbon because you will want to make the first Tulle loop there, and mark it with a paper clip or tape.
2. Start cutting strips of the Tulle. This will also depend on the length you want the tutu to be – the shorter the fluffier it seems to be. The Lena’s/Elsa’s strips of Tulle were 20 inches long, but you will be folding these in half so the strips will look 10 inches long. I cut up the both of the rolls of White Tulle because I knew that was going to be my base color, which I would suggest. The nice thing is that you can really make this your own, so whatever you want to use as the main color will need the most! Then cut half of the rolls of the other colors, same length.
3. Place your ribbon in front of you, on your lap or the table and have the Tulle strips next to you.
4. Fold the Tulle in half and place it under the ribbon. You will then pull the ends through the loop over the ribbon ( see pictures) . Do this with base color and alternating however you want with the other colors. Make sure you alternate from the center so you have an even amount of strips from the middle of the ribbon.
5. Continue adding strips until it fits all the way around your little ones waist and you can tie it into a bow!

The Elsa Leotard:

1. Lay out the Leotard on a flat surface.
2. Lay out all the little snowflakes that you would like to add onto the Leotard before gluing so you can make any changes before they get messy or permanent =)
3. Use the Fusion glue and drop a little, and I mean LITTLE glue on the Leotard and then press down the snowflakes onto the Leotard. You don’t need a lot of glue, a little goes a long way. It also takes about 2 hours to completely dry.
4. If you want, you can take one of the snowflakes and spread the fabric glue ontop and add the blue glitter. Once it is dry shake off the excess glitter and you can glue it to the leotard.

And the outcome? So cute!

The Anna Costume

You will need ALL dark blue Tulle for the Tutu, but the steps are the same.

What you will need:

• 3 rolls of white tulle (it is really sheer and you will need more)
• 40 inches of a blue ribbon- I found a great pattern one at Michaels
• Black leotard
• Puffy Paint
  • Green
  • Pink
  • Yellow
  • Purple
• Fabric fusion glue
• Gold glitter

The Anna Leotard:

1. Lay out the Leotard on a flat surface.
2. I free-handed a pattern with a White colored Pencil- you can mess up and wash it out and re-do as often as you would like.
3. Use the puffy paint and decide which lines get what color. I loved this because I was able to re-create Anna’s costume, but with a Ballerina flair. It also takes about 2 hours to completely dry.
4. I used the Fabric glue and edged the Black Leotard on the top and then poured glitter onto it, to give it a little bit of a boarder.

And the result again, so so cute!

And together, of course Elsa and Anna make a lovely combo! How about that for some DIY Frozen Halloween Costumes?!
