Nendo’s surprising design objects

I discovered Oki Sato‘s work thanks to Radar, the blog by Anabel Vázquez. Sato is the mind behind Nendo, the Japanese design studio that has created genius objects for Shu Uemura, CocaCola, Häagen-Dazs… Sato has also designed the interiors of Issey Miyake stores, Camper, Theory, Kenzo. The furniture Nendo conceives is always unexpected, creative, inspiring, extremely original and pure. The table with no depth, the vase that makes flowers disappear… Their pieces are characterized by their “!” effect, as he defines it. An element of surprise that can trigger a smile.

Chocolate tubes: “A design that combines the childhood excitement of opening a new box of paints and the thrill of opening a box of chocolates you’ve been given unexpectedly.”

Chocolate pencils

“A pop-up shop dedicated to Starbucks’ espresso drinks, in which visitors can learn more about drinks like lattes, cappuccinos and cafe mochas. We designed the space to be like a library, with bookshelves. On the shelves, we positioned books with covers in nine different colors. Each color of book corresponds to a different espresso drink.”
