Bestitched Valentine’s Day Card DIY

Heute habe ich für euch eine kleine und einfache DIY-Idee für den Valentinstag – eine bestickte Karte mit Herz. Liebe Valentinstag-Boykottierer: Die kann man natürlich auch an jedem anderen Tag verschenken!

Today I’ve got a sweet and easy Valentine’s Day DIY idea for you: a bestitched card with heart. Of course, you could also give this to a loved one on every other day as well!

Benutzt wurde: Tonpapier, festerer Karton, eine Nadel, rote Wolle, Schere, Kleb (jaja, auf hochdeutsch wohl: ein Klebestift) und ein Stift.

I used: construction paper, cardboard, a needle, red wool, scissors, a glue stick and a pen.

Zuerst habe ich eine Postkarte als Vorlage genommen und aus meinem Tonpapier einen Streifen in der Breite der längeren Seite der Karte ausgeschnitten. Diesen habe ich so gefaltet, dass ich zweimal die gesamte Kartengröße (als Vorder- und Rückseite der Karte) und ein kürzeres Stück erhielt, mit dem ich die Rückseite der Stickerei abdecken konnte.

First I took a postcard as a template and cut a strip of my construction paper in the width of the longer side of this card. I folded it so that I received the entire card size twice (as the front and back of the card) as well as a shorter piece with which I was able to cover the back of the embroidery.

Als nächstes habe ich meinen Spruch auf die Vorderseite der Karte geschrieben und ganz dünn vorgezeichnet, wo später gestickt werden sollte.

Next, I wrote on the front of the card and mapped out where I wanted to stitch very thin.

Anschließend habe ich ein Stück dickeren Karton zur Verstärkung auf die Rückseite geklebt und angefangen, Löcher vorzubohren.

Then I glued a piece of thicker cardboard on the back for reinforcement and started to pre-drill the holes.

Weiter Löcher vorbohren, dabei immer abwechselnd etwas mehr und etwas weniger Abstand lassen. Für den ersten Stich habe ich den Faden von hinten nach vorne durchgestochen und verknotet.

I continued to pre-drill holes, alternately leaving more and less distance between them. For the first stitch I punched the thread from back to front.

Nun habe ich weitergestickt bis zum letzten Loch. Wenn etwas reißen sollte, kann man das gut mit einem Streifen Tesafilm von hinten beheben. Am Schluss habe ich den Faden wieder verknotet und das restliche Tonpapier eingeklappt und darübergeklebt.

Now I stitched until I got to the last hole. If something rips, you can fix this easily with a strip of adhesive tape from the back. In the end I knotted the thread again and folded the remaining construction paper over it and glued it together.

Fertig! Jetzt fehlen nur noch ein paar liebe Worte auf der Innenseite der Karte. Diesen Spruch finde ich ja auch sehr dem Zeitgeist entsprechend: There Is Nobody Else I’d Rather Lie In Bed and Look At My Phone Next To von Emily McDowell.

Done! Now it’s only missing a few kind words on the inside of the card. I like this saying: There Is Nobody Else I’d Rather Lie In Bed and Look At My Phone Next To by Emily McDowell.
