Foundations for a Flawless Complexion

Not everyone was born with a flawless complexion but, thankfully, with the right foundation you can create one. I’ve been lucky to have a pretty good complexion most of my life; but between stress, my crazy life, travel, and not enough sleep- I have to deal with all kinds of skin problems at times too. Pimples, under eye circles, bigger pores and wrinkles (ugh I’m getting older now)- just to name a few. Foundation is a cosmetic that I’ll splurge on, I buy a lot of drugstore cosmetics and I’ll be posting some of my faves in the future, but I’ve found that foundation is just one of those things where you really get what you pay for.
For the most part I don’t wear a lot of makeup. Mascara, blush and lip gloss about does it for me- but I always want my skin to look it’s best. It’s about hiding flaws without being noticeable. You never want to look like you’re wearing it, you want to look like you were born with it :) Here are a few of my personal favorites and a few tips on how I apply them.

The first step to a flawless look is to make sure there a no flakes or dry skin patches that will ruin your finish and give you dull looking skin, so exfoliate if you need to. I’ll be sharing my favorite exfoliants in a post soon :)
Next apply your moisturizer/sunscreen and eye cream and wait 10 minutes to let it sink into your skin. My fav moisturizers coming soon!

If your skin is a feeling a little dry, you can add a dab of moisturizer to your foundation. This also makes your foundation more translucent for a really natural look.

I apply my foundation with my fingers but I finish it with a sponge. It makes your foundation just disappear into your skin and pores gone. Don’t put the foundation on the sponge first. That’s the mistake most people make and it just wastes foundation. You can dampen the sponge and squeeze it out to get a really natural application. They are also great for blending cream blush, which isn’t easy to do with fingers. You can also wash with a little antiseptic hand soap and re-use for a few days.

I’d love to hear what your favorite foundations and tricks for flawless skin are. So leave a comment below and let me know if there’s anything you love that I should check out!
