Summer In Paris

As the last hoorah of my summer travels around the world I jetted off to Paris to shoot a project with Michael Kors. When I think of a jet-set life, I automatically think of Michael Kors. The way their campaigns make you feel like you’re in the heart of the action- in some desirable destination around the world. Beautifully choreographed shots capturing that perfect moment in motion; where beauty, fashion and lifestyle become a seamless transition.

Unfortunately it’s not usually this way in real life. Traveling isn’t easy, it isn’t always fun and for the most part (unless you are a prince with a private jet) it sure isn’t glamorous. There’s packing- which can be treacherous, hours and hours in airports, missed flights, lost bags, and upset stomachs- just to name a few of the things that I’ve experienced in the past month. For me every trip becomes a learning experience, and after a month around the world I’ve teamed up with MK to talk about some summer beauty and fashion travel essentials.

1) Beauty – packing beauty products is half the battle. If I were to take with me all the products I use on a daily basis I’d need 10 bags. So when you’re going on a trip you really need to narrow it down to the essentials. Obviously there’s the basics – shampoo, toothpaste, etc. But as a woman what are some of the other things that you end up needing that maybe you don’t think of right away?

1. Nail Polish – if you go on a long trip, especially when water is involved your nails are going to chip. It’s inevitable. Finding a nail salon in other countries isn’t as easy as it seems. In some places it’s actually impossible. So to assure you aren’t left with a chipped hot-mess bring your favorite nail color of the moment. Mine this trip, is this deep shimmering blue. (I used Michael Kors Femme Fatale from the new Glam collection.)

2. Self tanner – this one is actually SO important to me. I don’t tan that well to begin with, plus in hopes to preserve my skin I slather on so much sunscreen it’d be near impossible to get a good tan anyway! I put a little self tanner on every night and mix it with my lotion to keep my body (especially my legs) bronzed while I’m traveling. (Used above: MK Liquitan Self Tanner)

2) Style- Packing for travel is all about packing pieces that are re-wearable and easily mixable with other pieces. Long maxi dresses are a favorite of mine. Always easy to wear and throw on anywhere. Neutral colors- whites, blacks, tans, greys are always easy to mix and match. Where as if you back a bag full of bright colors your options might be more limited. One jacket- for the most part depending on where you are going you might not have to wear one at all but it’s always best to be safe. I brought this denim one I loved that has a detachable collar so it makes it easy to switch up a look with the same jacket.
