Thoroughly Modern

When getting ready for a night out, whether it's a date with my husband or cocktails with girlfriends, I usually gravitate towards a silky blouse & skirt or a cami, blazer & skinny jeans. But every once in a while, it's nice to step outside my comfort zone and try something totally different and unexpected. I've used this vest before as a layering piece (here), but I like the idea of wearing it alone & buttoned up for a modern take on evening separates. It has a tailored & sophisticated feel that's a nice departure from the feminine styles I normally wear. If you don't have a menswear-style vest, try this same concept with a buttoned-up blazer (hint: secure the inside of the lapel at your bust with double-stick tape or a hidden safety pin so you don't risk revealing too much).
