ghd Aura

ghd has long had a place in my heart – ever since I got my first pair of hair stylers for Christmas in 2002 (which were still going strong until very recently in their new home at my sister’s house. I’ve dabbled with other tools, but I do always come back to the ghd fold. But, I had never tried their hair dryer offering – until now that is. With the launch of their new ghd Aura blow dryer I had the chance to have a bit of a blow dry lesson in the ghd studio and then was sent home with all the essentials I needed to try it myself at home and see if I can recreate the same effect.

At the session I picked up a few very valuable blow-dry tips that I was actually organised enough to write down… so wanted to share with you.

A good blow dry is very much about prepping the hair with products: use the right ones and it will really help your finished look last a bit longer. A heat protection spray is vital.

Think of your hair as like glass: when it’s warm/hot is when you shape it, when it’s cool is when it sets.

Start by blowdrying the hairline: around the face and do this so hair is away from the face – this will create a longer lasting ‘lift’ to the hair and looks more flattering overall.

A good blow dry is ALL about tension: making sure you have tension in the hair when going for a straight or a waved look is vital as helps the hair shaft to form it’s ‘new’ shape when being heated/dried.

The snazzy new hair dryer from ghd – the ghd Aura is a rather clever thing – firstly it has this new ‘wind funnel’ technology that means the air is pulled all the way through and heated on the way rather than spun around as it passed through the gadget. The main result of this being that when the air comes out and goes to the hair, it’s ‘neater’ and less likely to just create a messy mass of blown around hair. Essentially, resulting in a smoother style overall. It also means you can use close to the head (with air blasting away from the head or scalp and you’re not going to burn yourself – so you can get right into the roots.

It also has a clever material used for the nozzle meaning it doesn’t get hot – very handy for styling. Plus the air that comes out has two aspects to it – theres the hot air, but then around the outside of the ‘air funnel’ there’s also cool air so you can set as you style – helping to create a style that lasts that little bit quicker. Oh, and it’s also quiet enough you can hold a conversation over it.

All in all, it’s a pretty impressive piece of hair gadgetry. Plus in all of this it feels nice and light to use – so no arm aching or whatever whilst you do your ‘do!

The new ghd auraTM styling hairdryer has been designed to give you the good hair day that you deserve. It’s the first tool to offer exceptional styling benefits whilst it dries, making it easier than ever to achieve salon results at home. Innovative LaminairTM and Cool-WallTM technologies developed by a team of ghd scientists will leave you with super-shine and luxurious volume. It’ll revolutionise the way you dry your hair!
