5 Minute Face: Clarins

Clarins is without a doubt, one of my favourite brands. Generally without fail you can find at least one or two of their products in my every day go-to make-up bag. Also, secondary to this – I am not generally one to spend a long time doing make-up on a daily basis. Sure, for a special occasion – absolutely. But day to day, I generally like to get it down to a simple art of a few favourites that I can rely on to apply and make me look ready to face the world and quickly as possible. So when approached by Clarins to re-create some of their content they have produced with Sali Hughes – including a 5 minute face, 10 minute face and 15 minute face I was definitely interested. Clarins AND speedy beauty? My perfect combination.

Now that I’m working from home, it’s all too east to spend the day make-up free (and in PJs…) so I do make an effort when working from home all days to at least put a simple five minute face on before I become a total beauty blogger fail and my entire make-up collection starts to gather dust. So armed with a selection of Clarins bits – some old favourites of mine, others new that I hadn’t actually tried before I set about doing my own variation of the five minute face. A run down of the products I used:

Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base ’01 Rose’ – Not one I’d normally reach for daily, but after a long weekend of late nights and Wedding celebrations for some of my best friends I thought this would be a handy little addition for an extra boost.

Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream – Not one I’ve actually tried before, however my current base of choice is a Clarins one, their Hydraquench Tinted Moisturiser which I am absolutely adoring so I had high hopes. It really is an in-between for foundation and tinted moisturiser – as Sali says in the video – it’s lighter than a foundation, but offers more coverage than a tinted moisturiser. It is a nice base, although personally it would be hard pushed to replace my current love of the Hydraquench as I mentioned – I did find that it slightly clings to dry areas – so if like me you do lean towards the dry/dehydrated side then you might want to switch for the Hydraquench for an alternative for a quick and easy but slightly more dry-skin-friendly face. I do like how the BB cream is light enough to still let a few of my freckles shine through through – am a big fan of freckles.

Clarins Instant Concealer - An old favourite of mine. Great for coverage but without looking or feeling heavy. My one little tip is even with a speedy face, if you’re not wearing shadow then add a touch of concealer to the lids too as can really even skin out overall and brighten up the eyes a bit without the effort of full shadow.

Clarins Be Long Mascara - Another old favourite, simply a great formula – although does work best when build up gradually for a more dramatic look.

Clarins Multi-Blush in ’02 Candy’ - A colour pop coral shade that I love. I do love a cream blush and it’s usually the texture I opt for when in a hurry or having a lazy day at home as it looks so fresh and flattering it can hide a whole manner of sins.

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in ’03′ - The ultimate in ‘my lips but better’ products. Like a bit of a balm/gloss hybrid but not at all sticky – I normally opt for more pinky/coral shades but this is very much a natural looking true nude.

Clarins Perfect Eyes and Brows Palette - A new one, but an instant love for me. Brows would have to be one of my essential steps in even the quickest of faces as without them I do resemble a mole-rat, so they’re kinda important. I simply added a little touch of the palest of the three brow shades to fill mine out a little and add more definition to my face overall.

So whilst Sali kept her five minute face to four products I did add a couple of extra – the concealer, which maybe isn’t totally vital for day to day but after those late nights I mentioned it was one I needed to throw in there. For the same reason I added the Radiance Boosting Complexion Base – a lovely product, definitely skippable if you’re in a real hurry, but if you have that extra moment add it in for a bit more of a glow all day long. Then I added in a touch of the brow palette – not the full brow groom process, just the touch of colour and a brush through to neaten. But it’s definitely an essential for my face, no matter how little time I have. I’m perfectly happy with my speedy Clarins face overall, with the slight ‘switch’ of opting for the Hydraquench Tinted Moisturiser over the BB Cream when my skin is leaning towards the dry side.
