Barry M Gelly Collection Autumn 2014

Barry M Gelly nail paints are some of my favourite bargain nail colours – so glossy and they seem to just manage to crawl inside my head and create colours based on what I’m loving at the time. A couple of my long term favourite shades are from the Gelly range. But this post is all about the new Barry M Gelly Collection Autumn 2014 – which is a combination of some fairly ‘typically’ Autumn shades and some brighter colours with a bit of a twist…

Going from left to right we have:

Mustard: The mustard yellow (obvs) a shade I’m absolutely loving for Autumn (and I am very rarely a yellow/orange kinda girl) but not sure this would work as a nail colour for me. But I do love it when next to the grey.

Chai: The grey. I’m a sucker for a grey – not for everyone, but it’s a shade that I wear year round (more dove-grey in warmer months, deeper grey when colder) and this is the perfect mid grey. Could do with three coats rather than two though.

Paprika: The spicy terracotta sort of shade. The inspiration is clearly pretty direct for shades to names on these ones. A rich one that feels like a bit of a twist on the usual Autumn shades.

Cardamom: The creamy green – I was half expecting this to be called ‘forrest’ but I guess there’s a bit of a herbs/spices type of theme going on with the colours…A rich green, one that whilst it wont be everyone’s taste is a happy medium green that really will suit a range of skin tones. Just need to be brave enough to have green nails.

Chilli: The reddy brown shade. Another fairly typical Autumn shade. Lovely and rich and great if you’re looking to keep things in the traditional range for nail shades. A nice alternative to classic red.

Cocoa: Dark brown – for those who like to go dark with their nails in Autumn. This is for you, probably the smoothest and most pigmented of the bunch. Which considering how dark it is, is impressive that it doesn’t need three coats.

So there we have the shades. I’m going to be a big of a contradiction here and say that Mustard is actually the stand out to me – although I’m still not convinced it’s right for my skin tone. It’s bright and a definite twist on the predictable shades. Love that it’s different and it does remind me of sunflowers…which are one of my favourites.
