Dolce & Gabbana The Lift Foundation
It’s that time of the year where beauty world is flooded with a whole host of new foundation launches. Why it’s this time of year I don’t really know – I guess it’s when people switch from lighter base options of tinted moisturisers and BB creams to something a bit heavier for Winter. But either way, there’s a lot of new foundations on the market. When I test a foundation I like to do so through a proper day out and about around London – but also look at it on first impressions too. Both are pretty important. This is the new offering from Dolce & Gabbana and is the first base product I’ve tried from the brand. Based on their colour offering I had high hopes – but read on to see how I fared with the Dolce & Gabbana The Lift Foundation.
So, the claims of this foundation are that it combines a trio of ingredients (Gold Silk Sericin, Italian Olive Oil and Vitamin B3 – which come together in something they call Gold Flavo-Silk TricomplexTM) to ‘restore skin’s natural moisture, smooth the skin’s texture and help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.’. That would be a big tick of a ‘yes please’ from me for this. Although there is a big part of me raising a questioning eye brow at the complex sounding names that are thrown in there. I like that Italian Olive Oil is listed – although am sure this wont be to everyone’s taste as some don’t like any oil in their base. But I like how this is a little touch of Italy in there and Olive Oil is notoriously good for skin…
But what’s it like to use? Well, my first impressions are that the formula is quite creamy and a little goes a long way. One pump is all I needed to get my favourite light/medium coverage. The bottle and the pump both get a big thumbs up – the glass bottle feels premium and the pump makes it hygeinic. Obviously the downside of the glass bottle means it’s a bit chunky to lug around. But overall – big tick on the packaging front.
I used my trusty Real Techniques Buffing Brush (from the Core Collection) to apply this and the finish was a demi-matte one. I added a touch of powder to the t-zone and I was happy with the balance of glow/matte/shine. Staying power was impressive – it lasted the day for sure and I didn’t feel it either slide off my face, nor settle into fine lines and cause any obvious dehydration (my eye area is my big problem for this). I did add a touch more powder through the day just to keep any t-zone shine at bay but this probably wasn’t essential – more just out of habit from me. Oh, and it has SPF 25 in it.
My overall impression of this is a that it’s a good foundation if you’re starting to be concerned about things like fine lines, but don’t want to go down a heavy foundation route. It doesn’t *feel* like a typically ‘anti-ageing’ foundation at all and I like that. It just feels like a good foundation all round, regardless of any age-issues at all! Especially if you lean towards dehydrated.
