DKNY MYNY

DKNY have to be the leading brand in the sort of fragrances that I’d call ‘crowd pleasers’. The ones everyone has tried and worn at some point. Who hasn’t had a little spritz of the classic apple fragrance, or had a tall bottle of the DKNY Women in their life. Well, DKNY have this year launched a new member of their fragrance family – and it takes them right back to the heart of what it’s all about for them. New York City. All about the city that’s the backdrop for a thousand movies, the chorus of a thousand songs and subject of a thousand pieces of art. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who has visited the city and not fallen for it.

Since I’m heading back to New York again soon it seemed like a perfect time to share my little review of this fragrance. Including the snap of me and the face of DKNY MYNY – Rita Ora. I got to meet Rita back in the Summer and ask her a few questions about the scent, and her experiences in New York. Read on for some of the Q&A (I didn’t include the bit where I started to tell her about my new tattoo that I got the week I met her… not related. But in all my awkwardness, it was the first thing I launched into talking about before the questions…

Me: What do you remember about your first trip to New York?

Rita: “You think of it as a daunting place as I don’t know anybody or anything. But I grew up really quick so it always has a special place in my heart because it (the city) toughened me up a bit, for the better. But it wasn’t scary in a bad sense, but a bit of a new world. I’ll always have it in my heart – that’s why this thing was so easy to do because it was all about that. Taking a risk and adapting to a new environment.”

Me: Do you find you adapt your style when in different cities, and how would you describe your London vs New York style?

Rita: No, I don’t really change my style up. But I might find something and put it on. I think New York is a bit similar to here (London) I think. It’s a city, rugged – but still cool. I like how London (Fashion) is, there’s so much history. There’s so much history and so many of the best designers are from London.

Jen: What would be your dream New York day and any hidden big apple gems that you recommend?

Rita: My dream New York day would be it being a hot day, going out, hair in a pony tail, in a really cool pair of trainers. Getting a coffee, even though I don’t even drink coffee – they love coffee in New York. Just find a nice outside area in the middle of it all and just have a drink and be part of the city. I love the spotted pig – a place I go to a lot over there. There’s also a really cool downstairs place called Jays that’s really cool.

Jen: If you had to sum up the new DKNY MYNY fragrance using one of your songs, which would it be and why?

Rita: Probably ‘It will never let you down’ – it will always do the trick! It’s true though and not just saying that because I’m here – I’d never do anything I don’t believe in and this fragrance just fits. My first fragrance was DKNY The Woman, the first fragrance I was wearing when I kissed a boy. It just feels like a full 360 – it feels right. Like God brought this into me for a reason. Like I can’t not do this.

I don’t know about you, by despite being a huge lover of London – New York is a bit of magic and will always have my heart a little bit. So I feel like I can relate to the romance of this fragrance. Like it’s the perfect perfume for your own little love story with the city. Regardless of being in London or somewhere else in the world. Just writing this post has me super excited to get back there, craning my neck up to see the tops of the buildings that make London look a bit like a toy town in comparison. Doing one of my favourite things, which is just walking around the city having a good old explore.

The fragrance itself has heart notes of Egyptian Jasmine, Freezia, Orris. Top notes of Rasberries, Galbanum and Pink Pepper and Base notes of Patchouli Heart, Musk, Ambergris and Vanilla Absolute. The end result being a sweet floral fragrance, with a bit of an edge to it. I love that the musk and pink pepper really tone it down. It’s one of those scents that I’d always say let it dry down before you judge it – as on the skin it’s totally different to how it is on first sniff.

Thanks to DKNY for setting up the interview with Rita Ora. Chances are she wont read this – but Rita, if you do. Sorry for being an oddball and showing you my tattoo….
