Source List: Food Prop Edition

Lately I've been getting a ton of "WHERE did you get that!?" comments and emails and thought it might be fun to feature a few of my most frequently coveted kitchen essentials. Granted the whole idea of food photography is to allow the food to take center stage, but sometimes my props are total drama queens and steal a bit of spotlight of their own.

So many of my sushi plates come from World Market. I don't live near one, but whenever I'm visiting friends or family I will pop into one to pick up a little "souvenir" of sorts. I'm really lucky there isn't one within a 2 hour radius of my house or I'd be in serious trouble!

I treat this dish like the holy grail. I'm as clumsy as they get and if this baby were to break? I think I'd have to hold a proper funeral and bury it. There would be a headstone and quite a bit of tears. I should install bubble wrap floors so it doesn't have to come to this. I found this gem at HomeGoods a few years ago and have been on the search for it's doppelganger ever since!

I'm buttcrazy-in-love with these cutting boards from Lipper International. That is all.

Is this not the best dessert plate ever? I love how dainty it is! I'm tempted to head back to Pier 1 and buy another so I have a set instead of just the lone lace plate.

For those of you wondering where today's recipe is, I kind of screwed up. This weekend I crashed my external hard drive and lost pretty much everything I've ever written or photographed in the last 15 years including all of my graphic design work, blog recipes, and, most importantly, family photos. Losing those has positively gutted me. I still can't quite wrap my head around this actually being real.

So far I've tried scanning and recovering the deleted files but couldn't get a single thing off the drive other than folders sans images and files. We're going to try taking it somewhere but I'm terrified of choosing the wrong place and losing everything forever. I may have the memories tucked away somewhere in my frazzled mind but the photos... UGH... I'm one of those people who periodically looks through old photos and embraces the nostalgia. The thought of no longer being able to do that kills me. Any advice on what to do, what not to do, where to go, and where not to go would be greatly appreciated. If you need me, I'll be under my bed.
