my first week & assignments

I'm in Week 2 of school and it's going well. Our class is vibing, I've customized my school computer (big deal), got my binder & pencil case perfected (I think I've done it 3x), our teacher is awesome, kind and good all around and my 15 classmates are friendly, funny and inspiring. So many good drawers!

We have 5 terms over the next year, with 5 courses each term. This term, I'm learning Color & Design (Mon), Drawing (Tue), Illustrator I (Wed), Photoshop I (Thu) and Life Drawing (Fri) and my classes are from 12:30 to 5:30pm downtown. We've been driving our Jeep to class everyday and found $6 parking (compared to $8-9) plus a carpool buddy from class.

I'm doing Freckled Nest in the mornings (still getting into the early morning groove), then going to school, and doing school assignments in the evenings. Last weekend, I did a lot of prep for this week (so Kyla of me) so that I could focus better and it's been a big help... things like getting 30 loonies for this weeks parking, meal planning, laundry, picking 5 outfits (ie. which shirt & hoodie will I wear each day), house cleaning and lots of work/school stuff.

These pictures are of my first two assignments from last week. In the first one (above), we had to create a self promo using color to describe ourselves (still riding pink & red) and answer these questions, 1) Why I want to be a Graphic Designer? 2) What or whom influenced me to become a Graphic Designer? 3) What are my long term goals? We could approach the project however we wanted and I did mine a lot like a scrapbook page. I got 100% and was like, so so excited!

We also learned about creating depth and had to do a Perspective Drawing. I did a 2-Point Perspective (points are on left and right), with mechanical pencil & ruler and turned it into a little Freckled Nest corner. I'm new to drawing and really loved the accuracy of this method... felt so cool to create this :)

Thanks for listening to my college update so far! I'll try to talk about something else in my next post... I've got pictures from a January selfie-a-day thing I did, a 20 questions game and tutorials for a few ACEO cards with easy handlettering.
