I liked your blog before...

Every few months, I rethink my blog. I can't help it, I am ever changing. I think about the design, the content, and what I could do to make changes. I try new things and see if they work or not. But most of all, I try to make it portray a certain direction I want to go.

A couple of months ago I added contributors to this site with the goal of making it more of a magazine style blog with a variety of content from various other creative girls who inspire me. This eased some of the daunting tasks of trying to come up with unique content constantly, and I loved the stuff they came up with... I still do! I thought they were a great way to fill in those days when I didn't post... because I'm not sure if you had noticed but I didn't post every day before either.

Since then though, I've had numerous readers tell me that they liked my blog before all of the contributor posts and when I was more personal on here... and I'm listening... but I need to explain why I shied away from getting personal with you guys for a while.

I started to think about how much I wanted to share with those that I don't know. As you know, people online can be quite judgemental and I usually try to remain pretty neutral because of that. It's not that I really care what others think of me personally, but as with any anxiety-driven brain I start to question whether or not I should post certain things and whether or not it fits in with the whole vibe I want my blog to portray. I'm not sure that made any sense. Basically I wanted this blog to be solely a place of creativity and inspiration and good content and I wasn't sure that my own personal posts were meeting that criteria. As well, I really don't think my life is all that interesting, haha. That alone makes it tough for me to come up with "life" type posts and I was finding it tough to find a place to start.

With personal posts, I never want to come off as though I am conceited or that I think I know everything but I know that through words alone, sometimes people do take them that way. I think that is also why I find it tough to talk about my life. The majority of it is spent sitting at this computer and going about business. Is that interesting? To me it's not but to you... I don't know. I am not a bragger, and am pretty modest about my life, so if I share things about business or goals or something, I worry that people might take what I say the wrong way instead of just realizing that I am telling my own story through experience.

So it was a toss up of creating posts of value or creating posts about myself. And it still is. Can I do both? Not sure but I think I might try.

My favourite types of posts to create are shareable ones with good photos. Not just for the increase of traffic (because, let's be honest, that is nice), but because I simply love to share. I love showing others how to do things or coming up with projects that you can try yourself. Again, I'm all about spreading that creativity and helping you try new things or learn something. Use those brains!

Recently though thanks to input from a bunch of you, I've come to realize that it's those personal posts that you miss. I had lots of requests for more outfit posts, which was a bit of a shock to me because those have been so low on my "favourite types of posts" list and they rarely get any feedback when I make them. Apparently you are all just secret outfit post lurkers though!!

I think my problem is that I like so many things. I get bored easily of the same stuff so it's really hard to appeal to specific likes of everyone. I'm not sure at this very moment of the direction I want this blog to go.... something that was so apparent a few months ago has once again been begging for change, so I am going to start with a redesign and rethink everything.... again. I still want to keep some of the contributor posts, but can I have both? Maybe I can make it work...

In the meantime, please share your thoughts and what you like most about this place because it helps tremendously.

xo, Dana
