Tropical Strawberry Banana Smoothie

I can't start my mornings without my morning smoothie. This quick little recipe has been a staple of mine every single day for over a year. I recently started adding in mangoes for additional flavour. I'm a huge banana lover and go through them like crazy. This smoothie has an apparent banana flavour, but can be altered however you like with more or less of the ingredients. That's the beauty of bananas... you can disguise the taste easily if you're not the biggest fan. Here is how I like to throw it together:

  • About 1/2 a cup of crushed ice
  • a dash of pineapple juice (enough just to cover the ice)
  • 3 frozen strawberries
  • a few slices of mangos
  • 1 1/2 bananas

Add the ingredients in this order and blend. I use a hand blender but you can use whatever blender you like. The secret to a thicker smoothie is your frozen to liquid ratio. If you're using frozen berries instead of fresh ones, you will need to use less ice, and more juice. Fresh fruits will require more ice and less juice. Juice can also be substituted for coconut milk, water, or any other liquid you like. I recommend natural fruit juices with no sugar added. You can play with the ratios to find a consistency you love.

I hope you enjoy my favourite tropical smoothie! I tastes so good on a hot summer's day!

xo, Dana
