Why I’m Canceling My Gym Membership

Question 1: Do you belong to a gym?

Question 2: If so, how often do you actually GO to your gym?

I’ve talked a lot about fitness nutrition on this blog. But I have a confession to make…

I have only been to the gym three times since moving to Las Vegas (Eeeek!!). Sure I have been doing other things to stay active (hikes, running, biking, etc.) but nothing that I could really label as a full-on workout. And guess what? It shows. I step out of the shower and look in the mirror and it freakin’ shows.

How did this happen?

Well, moving away from Denver last August also meant moving away from my personal trainer (who has been featured on the blog here and here) and my workout buddies. The 41/2 months we spent living in a hotel was actually harder than what I allowed myself to share on this blog. I couldn’t cook the same, grocery shop the same and finding a place and the time for working out with a new job and a baby was really difficult.

There…I said it. It was bloody hard and as much as I tried to pull myself together I just couldn’t get into a rhythm. I try and live by the motto “If it’s important to you you’ll find a way. If it’s not, you’ll find an excuse.” And I guess I just found the excuses at the time to be pretty convincing. You ever get stuck in a rut? Well I kinda camped out in my rut for a while…

So…Are you saying that you think you’re fat? Cause that’s annoying…

No. I am NOT saying that I am fat I’m just saying that I am “soft.” I still eat nearly the same diet (you can read more about that here) however it was pretty touch and go there for a while especially in the hotel days. And honestly, I need to whip it into shape and get more focused.

Eating right takes organization and planning…something busy women don’t always have the luxury to fit into their schedule. But I’ve already made changes and am noticing a big difference!

So why would you cancel your gym membership? Sounds like you need it!

Because I have come to the realization that it just doesn’t fit into my lifestyle right now. With a full-time job, I only get to see my son from the time I pick him up at 4:00pm to the time he goes to bed at 7:30pm. I just cannot bring myself to leave him at the gym’s daycare during those precious few hours so I can work on my gluteus maximus. And I also cannot bring myself to drive to the gym after he goes to sleep…that is the time that my husband and I need for connecting communicating. So where does that leave me?

Um, where does that leave you?

My husband and I did a lot of research and finally settled on the P90x3 program from Beachbody. Best.Decision.Ever. It’s only 30 minutes long it’s intense Tony Horton is a bigger goofball than me and keeps me laughing the entire time.

As soon as I put Cooper to bed at 7:30pm, I head downstairs and push play on the DVD player. 30 minutes later…I’m done! I just completed week 1 of the p90x3 program and I have been so sore every day. Such a great feeling!

I’ll be documenting the process (along with a few other health/fitness related topics) once per week on the blog. If you think of any questions or have topics that you would like me to address, please let me know in the comments! This will be fun!!
