2 New Books to Read

From time to time I love to share what I’ve been reading with you and get more book recommendations from YOU.

Here are my two latest book recommendations:

BOOK #1:

Still Alice is one of those books that stays with you. It’s a rather heartbreaking account of one brilliant woman’s gradual ease into early onset Alzheimer’s disease. The story is told from her perspective…which adds a fascinating twist and a sense of vulnerability to the story. You read on as this incredibly healthy woman under 50, a Harvard professor no less, starts to lose her keys, forget people’s names and then gets lost while on her run and is unable to find her way home, despite having lived in the town her entire life.

It’s just a “human” story…one that reminds us to appreciate our minds and memory. Something we ALL take for granted.

My grandmother is currently in hospice care for a form of Dementia (she has a form called Lewey Body Dementia) and it’s seriously heartbreaking (sorry…I can’t think of a better word for it than that!) to see someone who was so intelligent and “with it” ask you the same question 5 times within 5 minutes. Needless to say, this book touched me personally…

BOOK #2:

Hidden is a story about human leading very human lives.

Umm, what the heck does that mean Marion?

It means that it’s a story about flawed people living typical flawed lives. A man is killed in a car accident and two women grieve: his wife and his female co-worker. I found myself turning the pages and feeling empathy for the same darn character that I hated just one chapter ago!

It’s a quick read that addresses the topic of responsibility in our relationships and the fallout of our personal choices.

All right, so now YOU share what book(s) you recommend! What book should I read next?
