An Open Letter to All Women

I’ve thought long and hard about whether or not to address this…and I guess if you are reading this post then it means I decided to push the “Publish” button. I received several nasty emails and comments on social media regarding my fitness photo shoot post last week. I didn’t respond to any of them because I try not to put energy where negativity lies.

But I received another one yesterday and I felt it best to respond as an open letter…so here goes:

Dear Women of the World:

Can’t we all just get along? Haha.

No really. Why not?

I published some photos last week that made a few of you feel called to take action by sending me your thoughts. Apparently a few of you think I am “too fat” to be wearing workout clothes. Some even went so far to use colorful adjectives such as “enormous” and “giant.”

Now I am NOT writing this letter to solicit sympathy or wave of comments of support. The thing is, I am comfortable enough in my own skin and feel good about my body. It took me a LONG time to get here (mentally and physically) and I sure as heck am not going to let anyone take that away from me. Does it hurt my feelings? Sure. But I put myself out there as a blogger so I guess it’s just part of the deal.

But what I wanted to address is this: As women, isn’t it about time we stopped tearing each other down and started lifting each other up?!! We gain nothing by throwing hurtful comments toward those of us who exhibit just an ounce of confidence. I don’t pretend to be perfect…if you read my blog, then you know that I am quite upfront with my imperfections and quirks! But isn’t it okay not to be perfect? I think so.

So I’ll end with this. Stop spreading the hate. Your nasty comments don’t penetrate the confidence of women like me because I know the true intentions behind your words. But I imagine that your comments hurt many others who read them, especially young women who are often very insecure with their bodies. Perhaps you ought to look in the mirror and see past your own physical body to really look at what is happening inside…because that hate is coming from somewhere.

And to all you beautiful women in the world who are spreading love confidence sunshine wherever you roam…keep doing what you’re doing! Know your confidence and kindness is more beautiful than the size of your clothing.
