Carter’s Awesome LEGO Movie Party

Carter turns 6 on the 29th, but we started celebrating early, with a big LEGO Movie party, last Saturday!

We invited his entire 1st grade class, and we ended up with about 30 kids and grownups, all partying hard! This way to the party…!

I had planned on inviting his whole class, but keeping things pretty simple. Then Gramma got involved. She doesn’t do “simple.”

From the decorations, to the food, to the activities, everything was LEGO Movie themed! My mom made some awesome signs that we hung up on the ramada at the park behind their house. It was the perfect location for a party. The ramada provided shade and tables, and we had lots of grassy area to set up our activities, and there was a great playground that the kids played on as well.

The party is in the details, and these two details were a huge hit with everyone! This LEGO head was a jar of nuts, before it was painted, but doesn’t it look just like one of the little LEGO head pieces?!

And did you know that LEGOs float in hand sanitizer? Well they do, and they look awesome! Such a cute (and practical) addition to the party decor, and everyone commented on it! “Are those REAL LEGOS in there??”

We got pizzas to feed the masses, and had fruit roll-ups and bags of cheez-its on the tables. And of course my dad had to rent a sno-cone machine and a popcorn machine! Needless to say, we had a lot of food.

The kids had so much fun with the activities we set up. The first was making LEGO men, which they could then take with them. My mom cut out all the yellow men, then she used colored foam squares to cut out various shapes that they could add, including pants, t-shirts, and sleeves. There were also a selection of foam letters and shapes they could add to their LEGO people, and of course black markers to make their faces.

Another activity was LEGO car racing. We had a box full of LEGO car pieces- platforms, wheels, and steering wheels, and another box filled with various LEGO bricks, to make their car unique. Then they raced them down these spray-painted boards, which we just set on a hill.

We also set up a table with a bin full of the larger building blocks, and nearby we had a bucket filled with water and two water shooters. The kids took turns building towers with the blocks and trying to spray them down with the water. Carter was enjoying getting sprayed himself, but I can’t blame him as it was hot!

Lastly, we set these BIG building blocks under a tree, in the shade, and invited the kids to build whatever they wanted! They quickly organized and built a fort, but I think it got abandoned when the cake came out!

The cake was something to behold! Party Planet in Surprise will do any image as an edible image, so we found this one online and sent it to them. We chose a cupcake cake, with both chocolate and yellow cupcakes, and buttercream frosting. I will not disclose the percentage of these cupcakes which I personally consumed.

Carter had so many friends from school there, and I think everyone had a great time! On the invitations we requested that if people wanted to bring a gift, they bring a dollar for his bank (or to buy apps). Carter ended up with over $30!

Most of the parents ended up staying for the party, but we invited everyone back to make a LEGO cookie before leaving. Square shortbread cookies colored frosting M&Ms = delicious LEGO cookies!

And as the kids left, we gave them a goodie bag filled with, what else, LEGOs!

Whew, it was a busy day, but SO much fun! Carter topped the afternoon off with a refreshing swim…in his clothes.

Parties are so much fun, and this one was no exception. I can’t believe my little guy is 6! Happy birthday, Carter!
