So this is what I wore on Match Day... rather patriotic, lol! (Sidenote: the Choies shirt is such good quality - I know we all get a little nervous about ordering from overseas but I was totally impressed - I got some other things and all were super nice!)
So if you haven't heard (via IG), John matched at our #1 spot, Tulsa, Oklahoma! We are praising the Lord for this blessing! It was a really exciting, unique moment for us. We knew John would be receiving THE e-mail on Friday at 1 p.m. so we tried to stay busy all morning in order to keep our minds off of it. As background information, John had 4 programs he had applied to (meaning that on Monday when we learned that he matched, we knew he would be in one of those 4 programs) - Tulsa, St. Louis (2), Birmingham. We both wanted Tulsa for various reasons... a. we would be 2 hours (or less) from my parents, sister & brother, & Grandparents. Also, we spent 2 months there this fall and really enjoyed our time there, Arkansas doesn't have a city like it, really. The other 3 options were going to put us 6-7 hours from any of our friends & family and we have already done that for too long. At the beginning of applying for residencies we thought we wanted to stay in Arkansas but the only opportunity in Arkansas was in Little Rock, which is a good place to be but there's already a medical school there with lots of students applying. Not to mention, when John & I first started dating seriously, he said if I would move to Virginia - he would move to Arkansas after he finished medical school. The only stipulation was that we live in Northwest Arkansas (for those of you not familiar -this is the booming, fresh part of the state - much like where he is from in Ohio.) I was okay with living in NWA because it's my favorite part of the state and because my sister's family is there. That being said - Tulsa was the perfect location for us because it put us at equal distance & much closer to not only my family, but both his best friend & my best friend. (Ironically, our best friends are both graduating pharmacy school in May and moving to NWA for their jobs.)
Okay, I'm getting a little more detailed than I had expected, but I did start this blog to document the whole medical school journey! Sooooo, we said a little prayer & opened the e-mail & not only did I scream, I teared up! It truly felt like a load had been lifted off of our shoulders.
