DIY Dream Catcher

Hello! I've been looking forward to sharing this little DIY Dream Catcher that I made last week. It's easier than it looks and I am happy that I was able to make it with things I already had: tape, some wire and yarn.

Let's get started!

Step one: First you need to decide how big (or small) you want your dream catcher to be. Mine measures 9 inches in diameter. You can use a circular can (or anything with a smooth circular surface of the size you want your dream catcher to be) to give your wire shape. Just wrap it around twice, overlapping both rounds of wire, and wrap tape all around your hoop. It will look like the first image. Tip: if you want to make this step easier you can just purchase a metal or wooden ring and hop on over to step two.
Step two: Wrap the yarn around your hoop. You can also use string, ribbon, a leather cord -- the possibilities are endless. Once you have covered the hoop, tie a knot. If you are thinking of using the same yarn for the inside of your dream catcher, then there's no need to cut it after you make the knot.

Step three: Once you have covered the hoop you can begin to weave the center. Start from where you made your knot and loop your yarn around the hoop like you see above. Try to leave approximately the same amount of space between each loop. My loops are about 1 1/2 inches apart.

Step four: Once have looped your yarn all around the hoop, keep looping through the spaces you created on the first round, like you see in the images above.

After a few rounds, you will notice your dream catcher closing in.

Step five: At this point you can cut a long tail of yarn and thread it through a blunt needle (I didn't have my blunt needle with me so I used a mattress needle). Since the spaces are getting smaller, it will be easier to keep going using a needle rather than pushing your small ball of yarn through the openings.

Step six: You are almost done! You need to decide if you want to leave a small circular opening in the center or not (I didn't). Keep looping all around with your needle until you reach the center. tie a knot and clip off the yarn.

Step seven: Now that you have finished you need to tie a piece of yarn or string around the top of your dream catcher. You can incorporate things like feathers, beads, ribbons and even mini dream catchers around the bottom and sides of the hoop. Let your creativity soar!
