Quick and Easy Faux Bob Tutorial

Are you one of those people that have semi-long hair and don’t always know what to do with it? I don’t want to cut it because long hair is more versatile, but I also want to get it off my neck. I do love a good sock bun or top knot, but sometimes I want something a little different. I had an inverted bob about 5 years ago when it was all the rage (a la Victoria Beckham) but I didn’t like all of the work that went into keeping it looking good day-to-day. Not to mention it took over a year to grow my hair back out. Well, I figured out a way to have it all; the long hair and the fun bob! My friends: sit back, relax and let me show you how to create a Quick and Easy Faux Bob!

You wont need much as far as tools go. Just a few every day hair care products, some bobby pins, and a hair tie. You could even use a variety of other kinds of clips and even add some ornate barrettes to dress it up!

Because we are using so many bobby pins and a hair tie, I want to note that we should use products that will reinforce the hair. My hair is a touch on the fine side, so I like to use a shampoo and conditioner that will help me protect my hair against breakage. The Suave Professionals Natural Infusion Awapuhi Anti-Breakage Shampoo and Conditioner are perfect, and they smell UH-MAZE-ING!

I also like to let my hair air-dry. I prefer to use as little heat as I can and since I do love to add curl, the poofy-ness/texture that air-drying my hair causes really actually helps my thick head of fine hair hold the curl. I usually spray the Suave Professionals Natural Infusion Macadamia Moisturizing Light Oil Spray when my hair is still slightly damp. I actually spray a little in after my hair is dry too, to help with fly aways.

And the last product you will be needing is the Suave Professionals Touchable Finish Extra Hold Aerosol Hairspray. I like my hair to feel soft and move, but hairspray is a necessity in this look so this one is perfect.

OK! On to the tutorial!

So starting with freshly air-dried hair. I do already have some of the Light Oil Spray in my hair which helps to keep your hair looking nice and smooth.

{one} Add some texture to your hair with a curling wand. The key to this step is to not be uniform with your curls. You can curl forward and backwards and create small and large curls. The texture helps with the next step.

{two} Using a hair tie, secure your hair at the tips. You then take the part that is tied up and start to roll it under. If your hair is layered make sure to tuck in the layers as you roll it up. Once you get the hair rolled under completely, secure it with bobby pins. The thickness of your hair will determine how many pins you will need. Feel free to use small clips if the weight of your hair calls for it.

{three} Lock your style in place with the hairspray! Be generous!

And there you have it. A quick and easy faux bob! And just think, if your hair already has plenty of texture, you can skip curling it altogether!

So tell me in the comments below: What hairstyle do you rock on a daily basis? A pretty pony, ballerina bun, or a beautiful blowout?
