Coloring kraft with PENCILS!

Hi there, Oddlets!

It’s Linda here with some fun tips for coloring kraft or darker cardstock with your Some Odd Girl images! I love how different the coloring looks when you’re coloring kraft; everything seems to really POP and it adds an interesting effect to your project!

For this card, I used my beloved Prismacolor pencils with our Party Girl Gwen clear stamp set. Prismacolors are nice and waxy so they color beautifully. On kraft, they seem to sit right on top of the cardstock, and you can get the coolest effects.

Coloring kraft is easy; the only real difference is usually in the skin tones, and to be sure you color a little harder than you would on normal white cardstock.

Another thing I really love about coloring kraft or a darker cardstock is that the colors don’t blend quite as much (or as easily), so you get a nice, almost chalky, look to your coloring.

For Party Girl Gwen’s hair, I didn’t try to blend it out as much as I would with Copics or even pencils on white cardstock. I treated the individual ringlets as separate from each other, and added some darker streaks (rather than giving her even coverage of color, which wouldn’t look as fun!)

I thought since Gwen is ready for a party, a streak or two of fuchsia would be perfect!

See how beautiful her dress looks? By adding a much darker, brilliant blue to the shadow areas, it really gives a lovely effect. I love how fluffy the underskirt part of her dress looks with the white pencil on the kraft.

TIP: Outlining to add a white glow or halo around the entire image looks fantastic on kraft cardstock! I decided to keep her simple and as-is this time.

The sentiment is from our Everyday Smiles clear stamp set, and the border is hand-drawn with a Copic Multiliner 0.3.

Ok that’s it for me, sweets! I hope I’ve inspired you to give a different cardstock a try! Next I’m going to give a darker one a go – maybe a navy or even black! Are you a fan of coloring kraft, or have you tried a different-than-usual cardstock for your card projects? We’d love to see!

We’ll be back tomorrow with a brand new Spotlight and Pin of the Week (from our Oddies’ Project Board on Pinterest!), so come back to see if your project shows up here! In the meantime, CLICK to get the scoop on our Digi Me Contest, and get in on THAT action for your chance to have your idea brought to digi life, and to win $20 to spend at the Some Odd Girl shop! The contest closes on Thursday, October 23rd at midnight Eastern – that’s ONE WEEK! Get in on it!
