What to Wear to An Interview For Men?

Read the following tips to find what to wear to an interview for men. You’ve completed your CV hopefully, you’ve sent it to every employer possible and the miracle has happened: you’ve been called to an interview. While you’re rehearsing your speech, remember that there is something as important as the things you want to say: your look. Your clothes are a part of your CV too. These days, when image plays an important role in any business, you can’t afford to go to an interview randomly dressed. Even if I can’t help you with your CV and experience, I can give you some tips on what to wear for an interview, or rather, how to look for an interview:

  • White shoes. Don’t wear them unless you want a job with some dubious underground organization whose dress code belongs in the 30’s.
  • Colorful shirts. I know that you want to attract attention and convince the interviewers that you are special, but don’t do this by wearing a bright red, pink, green or orange shirt. You’ll look too flashy.
  • If you’re interviewing for a job from the creative industries, don’t wear your father’s suit, from when he was your age, just because you want to look elegant. Try a more relaxed combination, like a preppy shirt and a sport jacket.
  • Leave the bowtie at home. You’re not attending a gala.
  • Don’t pull out your CV from a supermarket bag; it will ruin your whole look. Don’t use a pretentious bag either.
  • Before the interview, stop by a hairdresser and get a haircut. An unkempt hairstyle can say a lot about you.
  • Cut your nails. I know you haven’t heard this on an imperative tone since you were in first grade, but maybe it’s time for a reminder.
  • Don’t try too much. If you overdress, you might feel uncomfortable and you won’t be able to express yourself freely. Dress neatly and pay attention to the details that can say something about you, like a pin, a watch or a brooch. But be careful what you choose.

1. Use denim in a creative way If you want to wear jeans, you can integrate them into an outfit suitable for a job interview if you choose a shirt and a tie in complementary colors and a neutral toned jacket. Take a cue From Ryan Reynolds or Justin Timberlake, they give a new meaning to stylish denim.

2. Tieless suit You don’t have to dress soberly all the time. You can wear a suit without a shirt or a tie. Choose a sweater made from a very fine fabric like Ryan Gosling, he has this trend nailed down.

3. Mix & Match Don’t be afraid of prints, just stay in the same color family. Ed Westwick’s infamous character Chuck Bass is a very good source of inspiration for patterned suits.

4. Wear an appropriate bag There’s nothing wrong with a good backpack, but you can also try wearing a classic bag, spacious and neat. You don’t want you documents all over the place at the first gust of wind. Brad Pitt and David Beckham are big fans of the so called “man purse” and let’s face it it’s very practical.
