Fusion: African West Collection by Herbert Victoria

Photographer- Warren DiFranco Designer - Herbert Victoria Hair and MUA - Rebecca Beardsley Stylist - Nichole Nevins
Herbert Victoria's (HV) Spring/Summer 2014 collection was inspired by his research of contemporary fashion in West Africa and countries such as Senegal, Ghana, Mali and Guinea. The designer in his own words: "What intrigued me were the similarities between "Africans" and Americans in fashion. Americans buy into designer brands to express social status while "Africans" wear more extravagant fabrics to express their social status."

So he combined different fabrics like Kente from Ghana, the woven Bazan fabric from Senegal and Mud cloth from Mali to create his fusion collection of elegant shapes. I love the subtle elegance of some of the pieces. The orange color block dress reminds me almost of an Olivia Pope look (yes, I am a Scandal fan!). What is your favorite HV look?
