Summer Style with Maxi Dresses

Let me start by first introducing myself, my name is Shea and I am so happy to be the fashion contributor for L4L. I am so excited to collaborate with Ebony and interact with all of the L4L readers. For my first post, I decided to put together a summer style post featuring a few of my favorite maxi dress outfits to show just how fun and versatile they are. Maxi dresses are always at the top of my summer fashion list because they are comfy, and easy to style. I also love them because they are super flattering and a trend (if I can even call it a trend) that everyone can enjoy. Regardless of the occasion a great maxi dress is perfect for a brunch date, summer wedding and even at the office if styled correctly.

Look 1: Maxi Dresses for Work Attire

Because my office dress code is business casual, you wouldn’t catch me rocking a maxi dress to work unless it was casual Friday. However, because I have so many I figured I should try to start working them into my regular work attire. Of all of the maxi dresses I own I selected this particular one because of the simple column style. I wanted to take my maxi dress to a new level but I didn’t want to overdo it. I was able to achieve a business appropriate look by simply adding a white blazer and wearing heeled sandals instead of flat sandals. If you decided to rock a maxi dress to work, keep it simple. Try pairing a simple silhouette with your favorite cardigan, blazer or try even with a denim jacket. Remember to keep your accessories simple as well, try throwing on a belt and statement necklace. Look 2: Maxi Dresses for a Summer Wedding/Dinner Date

This dress would be perfect for a summer wedding and is versatile enough to be worn again for a dinner date. What I love about this particular dress is the wrap style which is complimentary to most body shapes. Also, the material on this dress is not flimsy and the straps are wide enough to wear a regular bra. I actually purchased this dress on whim because it really didn’t look like much on the model. I am so glad that I took the chance because this dress turned out to be a winner. Oldnavy.com still has a few colors still in stock with an additional 20% off. If you decide to purchase one size down and order a tall for extra length. For a sexier look, try this halter style maxi dress.

Look 3: Maxi Dresses for Weekend Wear

This dress is my “I wanna be cute but I don’t feel like really putting anything on” outfit. There is something about pleats that are always girly and polished. I love how frilly this dress is and I am sure that Sex and the City fans recognize this as a Halston Heritage dupe from the Sex and the City movie. The color is amazing and it’s just an overall fun dress that has become one of my favorites. Pleated skirts and dresses can add volume to your frame so I suggest sizing down whenever possible. Also, keep in mind pleats require extra care and only hand wash and hang dry to make sure your dresses keep their shape.

I must admit that I am a bit of a maxi dress collector, I have 15 and counting. Not including the ones that are in my Goodwill/giveaway stash that might find their way back into my closet, lol. I just love the easiness of throwing on fabulous maxi dress and walking out the door.

Do you own any maxi dresses, if so do you love them as much as I do? If not what’s your favorite summer style?
