Stevie Fan Club {Eyelid Surgery Update 2}

We are doing so much better today. I mean, yes I’m kind of exhausted. It is not easy keeping a busy body like Stevie at home to recover. I feel my battery completely drained by the end of the day. Which I guess isn’t that different from most days. But I actually got a good night’s sleep last night for the first time in… I don’t really know. So that helped. A lot. Hoping for more of that.

Stevie is in good spirits. As good of spirits as Stevie can be when he’s stuck inside all day. There is a lot of jumping on mom – from one couch to the other, breakin’ my back. Lots of forcing me to play on the floor with trucks and cars – building tracks and roads, breakin’ my butt. God, if I NEVER have to play cars again, it will be too soon. Like Stevie, don’t you want to just sit on this big comfy couch and read a book? Or better yet, watch a movie? NO! SIT DOWN MOM!

What are you gonna do? Just a couple more days until he can play outside again. And then I’ll complain about having to go to the park all the time.

The eye is looking great. Better and better each day (especially once the shock wore off!) The first time we saw it pried open was, honestly, heartbreaking. Little guy didn’t know what hit him – all of a sudden his eye is glued open and he can’t touch it or close it or see out of it due to the hangover. Oy. Miserable.

He learned quickly and we haven’t had to restrain his arms after that first day. He actually seems to be seeing much better too. In fact, on the way to his doctor appointment, he stared at his hands the whole time. As if he had never seen them before. That was a happy moment for me because it was the first time I felt comforted, that we had made the right decision. This is going to be a good thing for him! PHEW! Bonus: we can finally see his beautiful brown eyes for the first time!

At his follow up, the surgeon was very pleased. He still can’t close it, and won’t be able to without some effort, so we are trying to remind him to blink as often as we can. Not an easy task when your eyelid is anchored to your forehead. But in the mean time, we have to sneak an ointment into his eyeball to keep it moist, so that’s loads of fun.

As I mentioned in my last post, we’ll be doing this all over again in a couple months for the left eye, so he’s a bit lopsided for now. I can’t wait to get that one over with though. Then we won’t have to worry about another surgery until his heart. And that’s a couple years away. Don’t even get me started on that one. I’ll just put in on the back burner until I can’t anymore.
