Make The Most Of Time

I wish I could just press a pause button.

I look at the boys and I think that this is the best age. The 2-year-old is so much fun. He’s great at getting what he wants, especially if it involves tickles or kisses. He’s transforming from my precious miracle into a little man; and while it fills me with so much pride to see him growing up, I want to bottle him up. I often say he has just two speeds: Awake and Asleep.

The 6-year-old is so articulate, opinionated, and confident my heart bursts. Still there was a time when my 6-year-old was that wee 2-year-old and it seems like a distant memory now. He still loves the cuddles but not too obviously. We always get a sneaky squeeze as he gets out of the car at the school in the morning. He giggles into my neck and I feel his soft breath down my back. He’d better not get too much taller over the next year though because he’ll knock me over one of these days!

If I have one bit of advice to parents, it’s to make the most of time while your children are growing up. I learned that lesson recently when I changed my routine and reaped the benefits of more time to spend with my 2-year-old.

Then there are the moments where our family simply takes my breath away.

The 15-year-old got her Junior Cert results and she went out for the night with her friends. The obligatory selfie went up on Facebook and of course she looked beautiful. Quick as a flash, himself looked at me and asked: “Where is my baby gone?” He was right of course; she’s no longer a baby, even though she will always be a little princess with golden tresses in our eyes. We can’t get that time back.

I’ve always been determined to hug, cuddle, and squeeze the bejeepers out of my children. It’s not like I need an extra excuse.

Fairy is helping encourage Mums and Dads to make the most of those oh-so-soft cuddles with their little ones while they can. They’ve produced this video (watch with a tissue) to show how quickly time flies
