Running Motivation and a Video Chat With Boston Marathon Race Director

Hello friends!

Just a quick comment about yesterday’s post, all is good here on our family front. I just couldn’t help but put my feelings out there for the sudden loss of a dear friend.

Speaking of family, my night was complete last night with these two. We didn’t sing our song, but we got some extra cuddles in.

I’m also in a bit of a food rut for dinner. I’ve made homemade pizzas pretty much twice a week for the past 3 weeks.

I’m pretty sure Joaquin is over it. Maybe they all are actually, but Joaquin is the only one who’s pretty blunt about it. Ha.

So yeah, we all have tough days (weeks, months, etc.), but then we all also have times when something hits home or gives us a little kick in the bootie and says “oh hey, I hope you’re ready to snap out of it soon because amazing things are waiting.”

I got this email yesterday.

That’s pretty exciting, right? I’ve never ran the TCS New York City Marathon before but it has been on my bucket list for awhile.

Whelp, if all goes well I’ll get my chance this November. Everyone who got chosen from the entry drawing was notified yesterday.

That was my little kick in the butt to actually wake up the first time my alarm went off this morning at 5:07 am and get on the treadmill.

I did 10 miles. Started out at 7.0 MPH (8:34 pace) and increased it 0.1 every mile for something a little different. So by mile 9 I was at 7.9 MPH. It was kind of fun to change things up a bit.

Not the fastest run, but got the miles in. For some reason my feet looked extra long this morning. Weird.

Clean clothes and comfy shoes (some might call them slippers) were on shortly afterwards.

The weather is a bit crisp today too and I’m loving it.

This little creation happened this morning also.

Not the best looking, but it was delicious. A new little twist on the ginormous no grain plantain cupcake. There’s kale in there by the way. I know you want the recipe, yes? Tomorrow……

Back to big races and motivation today though. Boston is in three and a half short weeks. I’m in denial a little about it actually. Ha.

When I was at the Runner’s World Festival and Half this past October, I had the chance to listen to the Boston Marathon race director Dave McGillivray.

He told us all about his personal story which included his huge accomplishment over 35 years ago when he ran from coast to coast in 80 days to raise money for the Jimmy Fund.

Pretty incredible.

A couple of quotes that still stand out from his talk are these.

Dave is hosting a live video chat on April 4th at 12:00 PM EST to benefit Team MR8.

About Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation

On April 15th, 2013, the events of the Boston Marathon changed the lives of the Richard family forever. Husband and wife Bill & Denise brought their three children, ages 11, 8 and 7 to Boston to cheer on runners, when the unthinkable happened. An explosive devices from the now infamous terrorist attack detonated within 5 feet of the family. Denise suffered a serious eye injury. Bill took shrapnel from the bomb in the legs and sustained temporary hearing loss. Their seven year old daughter, Jane lost her leg. The force of the blast took Martin Richard’s life. He was eight years old. The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation was established by the family following the events of the Marathon. It honors Martin’s message of "No more hurting people – peace" by investing in education, athletics and community.

You can sign up for the chat here.

Live Video Chat With Dave McGillivray

I have a code for the first 100 readers to access the chat for free. It’s STUFTMAMA.

For each person who signs up, $1 will be donated to the Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation.

Okay, I better get a move on.

Have a wonderful day!

What did your last motivation come from? (Email, quote, movie, person, etc.)

Do you ever get in dinner ruts and keep making the same thing every week? I need to get out. Ha.
